[147] Swapping the 1.6 engine for a 2.5 V6

Hi all,

Okay so I'm planning on doing an engine swap in my 1.6 147. First I was thinking about fitting in a 2.0TS, but after some consideration I came to a conclusion that having a 156 2.5 V6 would be much nicer . I know that there shouldn't be any problems with mounting the engine, same with the exhaust since I'm going to have a new one built anyway. However I'm not sure about the following:
- The 147 has a CAN bus while the 156 hasn't. Won't there will be any problems with installing the 156 ECU and/or the rest of the wiring and electronics?
- What about the gearbox/transmission? Will the 147 5-speed one fit? Driving with a 190hp engine and gear ratios from a 105hp one may be a bit funny, but I'd like to avoid replacing the gearbox if it's possible. After all, the 2.0 turbo GTV has a V6 and a 5-speed gearbox (still, probably with different ratios).
- Any other potential difficulties I should be aware of?

I won't do it myself, but I just want to know the scope of the modifications and some background before discussing it with the appropriate people .

Thanks in advance.

ad1) yes... prepare for problems... lots of problems...
ad2) gearbox will most probably not fit. You should use gearbox from 2.5 engine...
ad3) more than you can imagine

There are so so many complications that it would be easier and MUCH MUCH cheaper to buy a GTA.

In case you really insisted on doing it, you will need a complete 156 V6 for parts and I still have no idea how you plan to plug a non CAN 156 wiring and ECU on 147 1,6 body computer, imobiliser and instruments.... maybe with 147 GTA wiring loom, ECU, imobiliser swapped and 2,5 V6 map loaded into the engine....

Mechanicall you need everything, engine with all anciliaries, gearbox (including the cables up to the 6 speed gear stick), driveshafts, suspension uprighths, most probably steering rack, subframe, coolers... the whole V6 front.

147GTA,Grigio Metallico,Imola leather,3.75l conversion,ported heads,F575 TB,Carbon plenum,Stainless manifolds,EQ pipes,Supersprint silenced cat back,18" GT multispokes,KW V3,Galfer 6pot 355mm,Brembo sport rear

147 1.6TS, Nerro,Beige Interior,Galfer Extreme Brake kit,2,0TS intake manifold,Custom ex. manifold,200CPI cat,Supersprint silenced center + OO backbox,GTA spoiler,GTA side skirts,GTA headlights,Blaupunkt LA MP74 + Focal + MacAudio + Dynamat + HERZ subwoofer

You need a 147 GTA (perhaps with broken engine) to use as a donor, plus a 2.5 V6 engine. Then its just a case of stripping your 1.6 down to a bare shell and then re-installing all the parts from the 147 GTA.

Thanks for the replies. It sounded like a good idea in the first place, but now I guess it's more trouble than it's worth. I will probably need to revise my plans .
