Help Is an aftermarket air filter for the JTD worth it?

Hi there folks,

This is my first AO post after buying my first Alfa, a 156, about 3 months ago.

Just been fixing her up from a neglectful previous owner and looking at the possibility of replacing the standard air filter.

I know the power gains will be minimal, of anything - what I'm after really is a little bit more noise.

Basically.. how much more growl would you get from an aftermarket filter and is it worth the price?

It's a 1.9 JTD (140 bhp)

Many thanks!!

Hi
I have replaced my air filter box after i found a big split in it also the lid was not fitting correctly ,after a bit of research on ebay i found a cone k&n type air filter ,they come in all colours and are easy to fit .i also fitted a cold air induction kit which gives the filter a nice flow of cold air . the real k&n filters contain a small amount of oil which can play havoc with your maf .
As for the noise you will get no change on tick over but over 3000rpm you will get a nice tone as the filter sucks in all that fresh air .
Loads of different prices but got the filter for about £12 and the induction kit was about £15 ,as for extra power ,i think so as now when moving lots of cold air being sucked in .
good luck .
will post some pictures tomorrow so you can see how it looks .

That high rev tone is exactly what im looking for, I think based on the price it's worth the punt! I'll make sure to try find one with little or no oil content to satisfy the maf.

Please do put some photos up! Will be interesting to see the outcome and I'm sure it will deffo be of some help best of luck with it!
