Help Squeaking Brakes

Hi guys I posted this in the 159/Brera forum but nobody replied

Any help?

This occurs when driving/accelerating (not just a normal squeak under breaking).

Ive had it looked at by Alfa (although i don't think they took it serious) and an independent garage.

Alfa said their was nothing wrong with them (i think they just looked at how worn the pads were and assumed there was nothing wrong).

My garage said there is a 'lip' on my front disks which they believe to be the cause of the squeaking and could only recommended changing the pads/discs (they said they cannot be sure this would resolve the problem but can only help). However, they did say that due to the fact a lip has occurred (and as far as I can remember they said its only on the 'inside' facing side of the disc), it should be a warranty job?

Any comments guys?

Or anyone with the same experience/is this a common problem?

I will be contacting Alfa again on Monday because this is ridiculous and should not be happening.

Thanks in advance.

Is the car still in warranty?

You can't be far from Autolusso, they will be able to diagnose the problem.

Can you confirm if it's the front or rear brakes?

If you apply the handbrake (gently!) when moving along and the squeal disappears or goes much worse this would indicate rear brakes.

from what you've said it sounds like the inside pad is dragging. Does any wheel feel hot after a drive? Thats the wheel that needs a closer look at.

I had squeaking/squeeling coming from the rear brakes on my 156.
It got so bad I would drive through town with the hand brake slightly on which killed the noise The discs were quite worn with a pronounced lip.
Was a bit sceptical when told the worn discs were the cause. I put new discs and pads on and the noise was gone Relatively easy and cheap job to do.

Think I'll just put up with it till the pads need changing (is there a pad warning light on the dash bord when they are low?).

Any recomended discs (as a performance upgrade)?

thanks guys!!

On my 156 the rears had no wear sensors but when they're very worn the hand brake light flickers at high engine revs 6k+ on full throttle. AFAIK it has something to do with there being more brake fluid than normal in the pressurised part of the braking system. I had bit of a fright when I first saw the light do that! Maybe the Brera will do the same?

Taking it to Autolusso on Saturday to see what they think.

Also to explore some brake upgrades.
