My project

Hey guys,

This is what I am going to be doing to my 156 2.5 V6 over the next few months, if I don't run out of money.

Firstly I am pulling the 2.5 out and replacing it with a 3.0 from a 166, yes David C you've finally persuaded me too . Carbon Dynamic Airbox from BMC with aluminium air intake pipe. I'm getting a specially made carbon plenum from selcuk and still considering a larger throttle body if not I will have to make an adapter as the plenum has a larger opening, any tips for that? Also, I am getting 3.2 GTA intake cam. Then if I have enough money left over I intend on getting a new exhaust system, hoping for a unicorse replica by wizrdovoz. Then for the exterior I want GTA headlamps and 17" GTA rims, not cause I want to pretend to be a GTA, but because I really like the look of them.

Opinions? Tips? Anything else I should get? Or for that matter not get?

Best regards,
yeew

not much if you have the engine on the ground... you'll need the driveshaft and oil filter bracket from a GTA, the cooler and 2 pipes, and the ducting to direct the air to the oil cooler from behind the bumper

Blimey, why not buy a GTA.......? You'll have a more desirable car as a result. But best of luck, it sounds like some great work. That plenum from Selcuk is tempting. I would get the throttle body as well if you are spending all the money on the plenum.

Cheers,

Nigel

Yeah I thought about a GTA but this is far cheaper GTAs are still around $20,000 here and this is only costing $3-4000. Plus I get to keep a car that's been in the family since new.

GTA_Nigel - You should at least ask him some questions about it get an idea see what you think. It looks amazing and helps your car's performance. great addition to any V6 engine.

The 166 use the same oil cooler setup as the GTV and GTA. Only the 2.5ís use the water to oil coolers.

but the driveshaft support which holds the filter and the connections to the cooler doesn't fit with 156 driveshafts

That’s true the 166 unit incorporates a engine mounting but I am sure it can be trimmed to work since it have more metal than the 156 & GTV.
But there are loads of 156’s with 3.0 motors using the water to oil cooler without a problem.
So just swap the units on the motors the worst part is getting the studs out since they also have to change.

The topic starter is from Australia so the average temperatures will be a bit higher than here... Remember that the GTA diffs started to explode in Australia first.

At the very least fit a GTA radiator then, it's bigger than the standard V6/TS item.
