Sports exhaust for 2.4 159/Brera/ Spider - anyone fitted one?

Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone has fitted a performance exhaust to either a standard or remapped 2.4 JTD 159, Brera or Spider and what their experiences have been?

Any more power? How did it sound?

When I had my 1.9 GT I had a full custom system made up by JP Exhausts, removing both cats and fitting a fast flow back box. Combined with the Mangos power box and boost mod it made the car feel better to drive, with better spool up and more torque right up to the redline.

I collect my 2.4 Spider this week so I plan on a trip to St Helens for the obligatory remap, EGR and DPF bypass. As the DPF is being replaced by a straight through pipe this would seem the ideal time to also do the whole exhaust and downpipe if there are gains to be had.

Whaddaya reckon fellas? Can't find any examples of people putting performance exhausts on these cars...

Luck is the residue of opportunity and design...

I would love to hear of any experience also. I have had the dpf removal / egr bypass, and it leaves a wonderful gap under the car to put a vortex style exhaust in. Would certainly help alleviate back pressure. I would take the plunge if it has proved effective..... My brother has a full vortex on his 20vt coupe and it is unbelievable. A simple youtube search of what milltek can do to audi diesels really does make me tempted....

If a corsa 1.3 CDTi can sound like this: MAGNAFLOW - Opel Corsa C 1.3 CDTI Mjet - Modificato - YouTube

I'm guessing the brera's 5cylinder will sound immense.....

It was a bit like this when I had the system designed for the GT JTD. Not really any existing resources to draw from so was a bit of a leap of faith.

Having taken delivery of the car yesterday I am immediately reminded of how flawed the 200bhp diesel is as standard so remap beckons ASAP. Suspension will be next, then exhaust time I think. Will revisit early next year and start researching more then...

I had a decat straight through system put onto my Mondeo ST TDCi and it sounds like a mix between a scooby and a Focus RS with the turbo noise!

So a 5 pot 2.4litre diesel will sounds immense! One of the mods i'll be doing along with the EGR/DPF delete when i find my 159

Smudge Don, tell me more! This is just the kind of thing i wanted to hear! Im thinking decat straight through pipe with vortex system in the middle (To fill the hole left behind by that awful DPF). I like the tailpipes as they are, so unless they can be fitted onto new backboxes, i would keep the original boxes. Shouldnt make too much of a difference should it?

The Mondeo doesn't have a DPF, but i'd imagine the system can use the DPF delete as well

My system was basically 2.5" from the turbo, decat downpipe into a straight through tube leading to twin back boxes and 3" tips

Sounds so so so sweet. Some people were even asking me if it was a petrol

I'll try and get a decent video so you can have a listen, will definately be doing it on the 159 when i finally get mine

My 156 1.9 16v JTD has a full stainless system from the turbo back. Pre-cat replaced with straight pipe, 2.5" I think which is more than enough. Main cat removed for a silencer, then straight through centre section & no rear box. It sounds just right, its loud-ish for a diesel but not at all compared to a sports exhaust on a 4cyl petrol. It sounds great from outside the car, and good enough from the inside but it doesn't hide the fact its a diesel, it still sounds like one. I'm going to fit the Unicorse backbox I took off my Sportwagon V6 to my new Sportwagon JTD and see how that sounds - might decat it as well.

Can anyone who has had the egr/dpf removal post a video of their exhaust sound?

The size of the dpf should make a difference to the sound of the exhaust

Hi MJ,

No worries, I've already recorded a video of my car with the standard exhaust note (+DPF removed) - I'll be adding that as part of the Skunk Works thread - when I've recorded the car with the new exhaust fitted...
