X Pipe

What do you guys think about the X pipe in front pipes as used by unicorse?

Does it realy work as people say it does?

"X-pipes are used in dual systems to increase the velocity of the gas flow to encourage scavenging of the exhaust gases. The actual crossing and merging of the gas flow also increases torque across the rev range. This type of system was pioneered for use in race cars. It is now becoming popular in modern muscle cars, especially those with I.R.S. as the tailshaft does not move up and down with the movement of the car.

Other benefits of an "X" pipe is that they strengthen the system and also help to quieten the exhaust."

Is this true?

Re: X Pipe

Yes, it works but... with completely different design. It needs to merge the exhaust gases streams not cross them. Like here:

Re: X Pipe

That makes sense. If the gasses are crossed that would be causing some restriction...

Since the dual system of the GTA is merging after the main cats anyway, and the x pipe is mainly for dual systems all they way through, is there any benefit of having it on a GTA system?

P.S. The GTA front pipes would be equal length

Re: X Pipe

Suits a v8 but not a v6

Theory suggests that keeping each bank seperate is the best option. Just because a company makes something shiny doesn't mean its any good??

If you want something like this but cheaper (but equal quality) contact OJZ enginnering. (north notts)

Yes and no. The resonace exist in any engine and it doesn't matter how many cylinders it has. Sometimes it is harder to design a working exhaust system which reflect in the cost but as I said you can use X-pipe in V6 engine as well.
Basicly it is similar subject as never ending story about 4-1 and 4-2-1 manifolds in four cylinder engines.
