Centre pipe

hello alfa owners wondering if some one could clear this up for me

i am thinking about getting an exhaust system and was wondering what the difference is between getting a straight through pipe or a centre pipe with a silencer

i am looking for something that has a nice sound to it not too loud but want it to improve performance

Re: Centre pipe

straight thru pipe will just be louder than the silenced type. i now have the straight through pipe and supersprint backbox. sounds great and looks far far better than standard obviously. maybe you will get a teeny weeny bit more bhp from a straight thru pipe instead of the silenced but it wont be noticeable by just driving. can anybody really notice a difference of 1-2 bhp when you start with 150?? i cant

But think of the difference if you started with 0 bhp

Re: Centre pipe

no it will be a different noise, lower basy noise, but muffled, like someone put a sock over your mouth

straight through wins, also usually cheaper as there isnt a box to pay for

just make sure you have a back box or a center box, or both (but not needed) , as you need at least one silencer in your exhaust otherwise its illegal

Re: Centre pipe

As was said, you don't loose hp from a strait through silencer, But I tell you what, a small sliencer sounds nicer than a strait pipe, it's not as raw sounding and takes away the rasp. Get a strait through back box to.

Re: Centre pipe

Have alook on my YouTube channel, Ive got 3 videos of my Ragazzon exhaust which is straight through with no centre box.

Its not chav box loud but very tiny/raspy I love it but everybodies different, some would say its too loud.

Sounds different while on the move which is harder to capture with a video

Re: Centre pipe

Glad i found this! i have got the back box from supper sprint and want to order the ragazzon centre pipe to replace the cat and middle box, but i was told by a guy at demon tweeks that i got the back box from that i wouldnt be able to fit the 60mm ragazzon centre pipe to it.

Have any of you guys done this?

Re: Centre pipe

I run a supersprint straight through unsilenced center and a supersprint backbox... its reasonably loud on full pelt.. but strangely silent over 6000 rpm!

gt 2.o jts

Hi everybody!! I am a gt 2.0 jts owner and i have some questions regarding the centre silencer. I have got a 200 cpsi metal cat, instead of the oem cats, an autodelta intake and a piasini remap. I want to change the centre silencer and the smaller one before the backbox with a pipe with only one silencer. The new pipe will have a larger diametre, about 60mm and a single silencer wich makes a "venturi effect". Keeping in mind that I have already changed my oem cats with the met. one, will I notice any sound and performance upgrade with the centre section? The backbox will remain the oem because I don't want the car to be so boomy. I prefer the alfa rasp.. I also want to increase the high r.p.m performance. Thank you!!

you want to be careful about the back pressure of your exhaust mate, they cars will rely on them to a certain extend. I would always recommend getting an exhaust built from pattern thats tuned and designed for your car rather than getting one thats just built to fit like powerflow sort of make. you will almost certainly loose power if you do.

with the cat being a higher flow and the centre silencer removed you will notice it get louder for sure but depends on the exhaust as to how much, shouldnt be too bad.

you will find that virtually all performance exhausts out there for these cars will have the centre silencer removed, tis just the way.

Thank you for the reply.. I'll keep these in mind. The centre silencer will not be replaced by just a pipe but a free flow silencer is going to be installed. Regarding the backperssure, this is the reason I will keep the oem backbox.

Job done!! The two middle silencers were replaced by one, which gives a venturi effect. This is the sound with one 200cpsi cat, the new centre section and the oem backbox.
