Has anybody "chipped" thier 159 JTDM?

I know this is a bit previous, but I chipped my last car and the results were great

Is there any experience of chipping the 1.9 JTDM from 150 to 185 BHP?

The supplier of my current chip will modify it to suit Alfa Romeo

Think 'chipping' is very 90's !

Nowadays people remap and results on the 159 diesels are excellent

Re: Has anybody "chipped" thier 159 JTDM?

I liked the 90's

Have a chip from Diesel Tuning who will configure it from my last car into a 159, so in terms of economics, will have to go down that route

Just bear in mind that if there's a warranty claim, if your dealer finds the physical chip, they may not honour it.

I'm running an Autodelta box but fitted by my dealer so theyre 100% aware.

I was told by Western that the tuning box invalidated the warranty.

Re: Has anybody "chipped" thier 159 JTDM?

Tuning boxes were for cars that you couldn't easily change the software on. On most of the latest cars you simply upload a new "map" to the ECU via the diagnostic port. This is called remapping, and is done by most tuners these days. The maps can be tweaked to your car, but more than that, they are physically undetectable, and I have never heard of an instance where the dealer could tell that a new map was present - which has good implications for your insurance and warranty

Long and short - you're better off with a remap. It can be removed very easily too.

Odd. Mangos were happy. Hence my reasoning to get it fitted.

Re: Has anybody "chipped" thier 159 JTDM?

Undetectable eh?

My Grand Cherokee broke down with a total electrical failure (still in warranty) and the car was towed in

I forgot to remove the box which I has installed myself and guess what?

They never noticed it was even there!

Have now brought the 08/08 159 Sportwagon Lusso 1.9 JTDM and will run it for a couple of months before doing anything to it, but as the results were so good on the Jeep, will certainly consider it

Mangos supplied and fitted though - Right? Maybe they have discussed with Alfa or are willing to sort out if they are dealing with a claim? Western being new are not up there with Mangoletsi who have decades of experience.

Re: Has anybody "chipped" thier 159 JTDM?

I had my 159 JTDM remapped about a year ago. Had a 320d before and the standard 159 performance was nowhere close. Took it to Red Dot in Watford and they did an excellent job. The rolling road test they do showed 158 bhp before and 196bhp after, loads more torque too. Nearly 20k miles on all is still fine and the MPG hasn't dropped. Get it done, for about 1% of the new car value you get the performance to match the looks!

I heard the ECU remap can even be deleted during a routine service?

Re: Has anybody "chipped" thier 159 JTDM?

Get the new man on the forum caling the shots

There are dozens of owners on here who've had maps on their cars for years without any problems whatsoever....many have had several warranty issues dealt with at the same time and taken the appropriate servicing for the car at the predetermined intervals at their AR dealer.

You paint a very bleak picture of remaps - the reality for many, many who've had this done is totally different.

Re: Has anybody "chipped" thier 159 JTDM?

I want to get one done, but risk paying R5000 ZAR only for it to be removed by the dealer, I only get the car serviced by an AR dealer.

The performance gains from a digital tuning box, cant be as good as a remap?

Has anyone tried one of these, seems too cheap to be true to me.

Anyone had any experience with them.

I seem to do pretty well here compared to what I've read! I do about 500 miles per week, probably 80% motorway. Trip computer regularly tells me the mpg is mid 40s. I don't thrash it, but at the same time I'm no Capt. Sensible! A 190+BHP Alfa that does 45 mpg can't be bad.

After reading the ebay feedback from the seller, seems to be a good product, one guy even had the performance upgrade checked on a dyno.

Seriously considering it, would like a performance boost, but can't afford the hundreds most companies want...

That is a similar sort of thing that I already have and am considering fitting. Took longer to remove the plastic engine cover (on my Jeep) than it did to fit the item!

I do notice that in his list, there is no mention of JTDm though

Judging from his feedback, it appears a pretty competent piece of kit......may have to invest at that price. (when I finally get my car like, lol.)

Re: Has anybody "chipped" thier 159 JTDM?

The results on my Jeep Grand Cherokee and a friends BMW X3 2.0 D were stunning

Improved mid range and MPG up by over 10% with no black smoke, and no issue's in the 2 years I had it

Will now get same chip re-configured for 159, just want to run it for a month to get a before and after

I used Diesel Tuning this one

Notice the promise to upgrade if you change vehicle

I tried one similar to these on my 156 2.4 JTD.

As far as I can tell it was a fairly crude device - I think it just increased the amount of fuel injected by tricking the ECU.

It certainly improved performance, although nowhere near as much as 20% in my view. It also increased fuel consumption (went from 42MPG to 26MPG) and black smoke whenever I booted it.
