remap vs tuning box for turbo petrol cars

Hi

When we had our go-faster oil burner tuned, the concensus of opinion was that a remap, if done with the use of a dynmometer, was the way to go, the tuning box add on was seen as either an expensive way of burning more fuel and producing lots of smoke, or an easy way to damaging the electronics. The only up-side observed was that of portability.
Is this the same with a petrol?

Reason for question is I have seen a tuning box from Novitech, but few companies offering remaps.

Cheers

Andy&Tracey

Always remap is better (if is done by someone who knows what is doing!) but Novitec (I understand that that company you mean) is well known and with good reputation.

Remaps can be adjusted and tweaked and no one can see them, including diagnostic software (so good for inusrance and warranty).

Re: remap vs tuning box for turbo petrol cars

Thaks for the responses, which are as I thought and reflect what is stated in the diesel world.
I must admit I'm not that bothered about big numbers for BHP, what interested me was the chance of improving the torque on the 155 mito and reducing the throttle lag.
However, all the information I've seen so far regarding remapping the Mito only touches the D map, has anyone looked at 'improving' the N position as well, whilst leaving the A as is? especially the throttle lag.

Thanks

To be honest with you there is a growing school of thought that the 'N' and 'A' maps serve no puprose in this country, so I'd be surprised if anyone modded them too!

PS that's a bit harsh of me, I'm sure N probably conserves fuel in traffic or something, and there are a couple of snow days a year for A mode.
