Help GT Alfa Romeo dealer supplied front upper strut brace

Just done a search

Am I correct in thinking the one we need for Clare's GT (3.2) is p/n 0005900972?

Want to get one before we head to Europe in June (Stelvio, Gothard & Bernard )

Cheers,

Re: GT Alfa Romeo dealer supplied front upper strut brace

Ordered the part today. That's an old number but it lead to the correct part. Circa £85 so good VFM IMHO. Should look cool but not sure what the benefits will be

Re: GT Alfa Romeo dealer supplied front upper strut brace

often none that you can feel, unless the chassis is already quite flexy (eg: high mileage car). still a good idea because it can help prevent the chassis from going soft by reducing flex.

it's one of the very first mods i add to my cars. doesn't necessarily make it a good thing , but it's cheap, has theoretical benefit, and can look good. makes you FEEL good.

Re: GT Alfa Romeo dealer supplied front upper strut brace

Update. The part is no longer made / available (as someone has said elsewhere). The dealer (Guests in Knowle) didn't think to call us about this though or return my call from yesterday

Anyway, they did locate the last one in the Country for me and it's at Advantage Motor Group in Lincoln

I've phoned them (ex-Alfa dealer now but still Fiat) and have paid for it (£100 inc. VAT). They will not post it though

I have an AROC mate in Grantham so I've asked him to get it for me.

Failing that, it's a trip to Lincoln on Saturday (188 miles round trip).

Better be worth it...

Re: GT Alfa Romeo dealer supplied front upper strut brace

Got it

Last one in the country as they are no longer made

It will look really nice I reckon

The fitting instructions refer to a 156 but I am assured it'll fit a 147 / GT

Any thoughts or opinions on this?

Yeah, it'll fit. Fitted mine to Andy's GTA for a while. Mine cost £800 3 and a half years ago BTW...

I got the last one

It's a Momo part so I guess they'd still do them.

Pictures soon

Does look like you were very lucky!

Every dealer has to log there stock onto the alfa system so that if we have a customer that needs a part and its on backorder or not made anymore we can see if anyone has one

Thumbs Up Re: GT Alfa Romeo dealer supplied front upper strut brace

Here you go

Easy to fit except for the cosmetic "stopper / bungs" that cover the bolt holes.

They don't seem to fit

Any ideas (rubber grommets perhaps)

Not driven it but happy with the way it looks

Looks very good Simon, but need to know if it improves the car, or is it purely cosmetic.

too big, too small? if too big, then you can probably use a utility knife to trim back the plastic.

but i must say, when i had that same brace fitted to my 156, i didn't use the bungs. i think it looks better without them.

Re: GT Alfa Romeo dealer supplied front upper strut brace

One the bolts from the suspension comes up too far so the bung can't be pushed on. Need to look at making an indent in the bung that doesn't fit with a drill if I can't get any flexi rubber grommets from Halfords. Looks really good though One for my 159Ti next as they're supposed to make a big difference to the turn in

If anyone's interested, the MOMO sticker in the box reads:-

Alfa Romeo 156 COD. 5901392

Cheers,

Re: GT Alfa Romeo dealer supplied front upper strut brace

if the 1-piece red MOMO is no longer available, i may have another option.

i just took delivery of a MOMO 3-piece version. it will replace my Weicher's brace which i dislike (in principle) because it is not solid, and has the 2 'pivoting' joins; so it theoretically allows flex.

this is a MOMO 'Air Metal' version, suitable for the 147/156/GT. on inspection, it is really nicely made, with no major 'visible' welded joins. everything is rubbed back smoothly. the finish is a flat silver on the side pieces, and a flat black centre, with a MOMO Italy metal badge in the centre. looks fantastic.

i'll post more photos tomorrow after i fit it. i found it on eBay-UK but i don't think the Seller has any more; and paid UK$50....errr, plus UK$65 for delivery to Australia! ok, so that's UK$115 all-up for me. no idea what they normally retail for, but these are not available over here, so i was 'happy' to pay whatever.

item: MOMO Air Metal front strut brace for Alfa 147
model number: A4090100100

google search doesn't reveal much, except a couple other similar models that should also suit these cars. not sure on the details about how they vary.

Re: GT Alfa Romeo dealer supplied front upper strut brace

strut brace fitted, so more pics.

it's very nicely built. of note:
*mounts onto 'outer two' bolts: these are primarily the wishbone support bolts, rather than the two middle strut bolts
*attention to cut-outs for nice fitment: better fitment than Weicher's which needed bolt holes filed/elongated
*attention to clearances with those parts of the brace 'compressed'/stamped flatter
*tension bolts: i've fitted it so the side mounts push 'outwards' against the wishbone support-bolts for maximum bracing
*unlike Weicher's brace, retains use of factory engine top mount brace (on driver's side)

about the only downside, is that it is heavier, being made of steel, rather than the aluminium brace i had. yet, not exactly heavy.

*Weicher's strut brace:

http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL97/.../361443188.jpg

*MOMO Air Metal strut brace:

http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL97/.../361508318.jpg

http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL97/.../361443366.jpg
http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL97/.../361443082.jpg

overall, very high quality. more discrete than the Weicher's, and looks fab. well, i'll let you guys be the judges too.
