Boost Gauge for A Rotrex Supercharger

Hi

Does anyone know how to plumb in an electronic boost gauge into a Rotrex supercharger?

I am having the gauge fitted today (the electrical side of things) which will just leave the plumbing in of the sensor.

I read somewhere that on a supercharger there are certain parts/sides which are better for fitting the sensor.

Anyone help

Re: Boost Gauge for A Rotrex Supercharger

Hi Banny,

no help I'm afraid, but do you think it would really be that useful unless you are involved in customizing the charger setup or something ?

AFAIK The boost will only depend on the rpm (the square of RPM for a centrifugal charger I think).
As a result you would pretty much already know (from previous seat of the pants experiences) just by looking at the tacho, how much the supercharger was working.

Its not like a turbo where you can have significant turbo lag depending on whether you dropped below a critical rpm.

Cheers,
TB

TB

I know but I would use it as an indicator that the SC was working okay and I like gadgets - much to the annoyance of my wife

I am planning on boosting the power shortly also.

Plus I have already bought it and it is presently being installed bar (excuse the pun) the final sensor connection.

Cheers

True, who can resist the lure of gadgets?

Re: Boost Gauge for A Rotrex Supercharger

I would image that the easiest solution would be to tap a hole in the plenum (or use one of the bolts I seem to see there... )

Re: Boost Gauge for A Rotrex Supercharger

Hi banny, I don't know much about your engine, but I think I can see a couple areas you could check.
One is the piping at rear of the manifold, the other is just by the throttle body, I have marked them on the pic in yellow : http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c2...5025modded.jpg
They look like pressure lines, they need checking, but you may be able to tee into one of them with your sensor.
Or,
You could mount the sensor in the manifold, take the throttle body off and poke a hoover nozzel in the manifold so drilling/tapping sworf is sucked up, if you use thick greese on the drill/tap this will contain alot of the sworf too, see red dot on manifold in pic, hth.
nice setup btw

best to read/gauge from the intake manifold.

jwq, jbsmith, jason

Thanks guys

I am going to tap into the manifold (well, get someone to do it for me ) - I think this is the best option

Cheers

Re: Boost Gauge for A Rotrex Supercharger

There may be some spare bosses in the plenum casting that haven't been drilled or maybe have and are plugged up. If one is drilled and threaded but has a different thread to your sensor, have a look for an adaptor from think automotive/mocal.
