Re: baffling a sump to stop serge

Didn't know this was a problem on the 2.0 Delta (but then again I've never had one, more's the pity), unlike on the older twin cam from the Beta/HPE.

Don't think I've seen any threads on AO either. Have you looked on Guy Croft's site?

Re: baffling a sump to stop serge

I think you mean Surge. How do you know you getting it, are you on a track? You don't need to touch the sump to combat this, if you are serious then get an oil pressure accumulator also called an accu sump. This is a pressurised canister of oil with is equaly to the engine's oil pressure. If the oil pick collects air during surge the drop in pressure is combatted by the accumulator releasing the oil it has stored (its a cylinder, one side connected to the oil circuit, the otherside filled with pressurised air to act as a spring), this is enough protection for the corners. I've not seen my oil light on during racing set to come on at 25psi and less.

Accusump is the thing on the right where the battery would have been with Moroso written on it.

Re: baffling a sump to stop serge

Hi thanks for that ,I'm using it for track day mostly i found that the oil was making it way in to the inlet and the turbo and blowing out blue smoke, the turbo is still withing tolerance so it definitely is not that .its picking the oil up from the breather on the front of the engine, at the moment it going to a catch tank .since Ive put the thread on Ive spoke to a few people and they have also told me to use the accusump .i was also at the time using 10/40 oil at the time and Ive been advised to use 10/60
.

cheers Grant

Re: baffling a sump to stop serge

No you dont need it, if your car blows oil out the vreather I'd say your oil level was too high.

x2... either too high, or too aerated (or piston rings on their way out?) baffling the sump for surge won;t help, although a windage tray might. Alrtnatively, you may want to modify your breather a bit to stop oil getting through.

Re: baffling a sump to stop serge

i just had run new fordged pistons in ,it should not be that .i used thinner oil i think that maybe have some thing to do with it, as the year before i had 20/50 and had know problem .it only happened when i was at the Nurburg ring .i think i just answerd my own question on that .the surge must have caused it to happen.

thanks for your help Grant
