Re: alfa 156 rear anti-approximation structure bar

Im attempting to translate approximation into something else that could appear in dictionary.com. No offence.

Maybe uprated anti-roll bar??

Re: alfa 156 rear Strut braces

Ah haaa. I havent any fitted on my 156 but it will make the rear end move about a bit more especially if the front end remains standard. Good/bad is up to you

Re: alfa 156 rear Strut braces

The structure at the back of a 156 saloon is already quite good for a road car.
I can't see those rear braces making much difference, especially as they are fitted using self-tapping screws...!

You also loose usable boot space. Which may matter to you, or maybe not.

I hvae THREE strut braces fitted to my car.

From my experience the one which makes the MOST difference was

the LOWER Front brace.

It stops the U shaped sub-frame from flexing under braking & cornering.

The Front upper, imho, is for show & the REAR stiffens the back end up nicely

A friend of mine is making Lower & Rear Strut braces. Copied mine & made them better

Re: alfa 156 rear Strut braces

the rear strut DOES making the back end more taut/stiff.

My friend copied mine & made one for his own car from 20mm square box iron & 2 flat bits welded on the ends.... worked a treat.

One thing to not is some rear turrets are flat & the strut brace will fit there quite nicely, others like mine, have a 'step' & causes greif when fitting. I ahd to jack both my rear wheels of fthe ground & let them hang so as to fit the brace in between the turrets

when fitted seperately the lower braces is the most significent improvement of the 3 braces

YES he can make Rear & Lower braces.

Will I ask him how much?

Had a rear strut brace on one of my ex 156's. Didn't make any difference IMHO.

Re: alfa 156 rear Strut braces

thats the UPPER rear brace, SEARs was on about someone who makes a LOWER rear brace.....

unless ive read it wrong, and he meant a rear brace, and a lower front brace, not a rear lower brace.

Re: alfa 156 rear Strut braces

Hi,
Has Pat been spilling the beans again. I can make a strut brace for your car, but the postage on it would not favour well with what you could buy an off the shelf one for.

To answer the question about it making a difference: If your driving consists of motorway commutes, then NO is the answer, but if you trash your car around country lanes, then YES is the answer. As Pat have said above, the front bottom brace makes the most difference of the 3, but the rear really do firm up the car when firing it around at high velocity.

Hope this helps.

Re: alfa 156 rear Strut braces

Wouldn't it be better value and more noticable to get some new ARB's GTA or Eibach?
