HID Conversion for 156 JTS

Hi all,

Just bought a HID Conversion Kit DAX35DKE 10000K for my 156 JTS 2004 (facelifted). What I realised after installing the light bulbs was that the shine wasnt as evenly spread out from the 2 headlights. From the driver seat, I can see tat the light doesnt look evenly projected out from both headlights.
I have seen my fren's Honda civic with factory HID installed, the shine seems to be thrown further and very even for both headlights.
Any idea what cause my problems?
Also, wat is the small little metallic looking cap in front of the bulbs? They do seem to look 'battled' and dirty for my car....wat function do they serve? Could they have caused my headlight woes?
Thanks.

Re: HID Conversion for 156 JTS

10,000K is overkill for a start.

They should give you a shape like this.....

http://www.tangcla.com/temp/st205/hidcutoff-1.jpg

For a start they shouldnt be even. The drivers side light should be low and reasonably flat. The passenger side light must be wider and angled up the the side of the road. etc...

Those caps stop the glare to other drivers.. Imagine if they weren't there. People would be blinded by your bulbs directly..

I hope you fitted the H7R type bulbs as the H7's will just blind people.

My beams were very not as wide and evenly spread as your picture. It's more concentrated on the immediate front of my 156. would changing to 6000k solve the beam problem?

no, you need to adjust your lamps using the adjusters

look at the light backs and there is a hex adjuster mess about with that.. It's either that or you bulbs are seated wrong.

Re: HID Conversion for 156 JTS

Are you talking abt the 0,1,2,3 (up and down) adjustor for the Headlight angle with regard to load on the dashboard? If not then where can I find the adjuster that you are mentioning?

Re: HID Conversion for 156 JTS

A quick google of the part number suggests that it's just the bulbs you've bought. I'm no expert, but as far as I understand, you have to replace the whole unit if you want HIDs. The huge amount of people who have bought these upgrade units is probably the reason I find myself getting so distracted by HIDs these days.

Have a look here. Apologies if you have got the whole kit!

Re: HID Conversion for 156 JTS

The car will never have a good beam pattern with HID's as the lights are not designed for them.

The 156 has a pretty poor beam pattern with regular bulbs as it is.

To get a sharp cutoff you need projector style lamps, not open reflectors like the 156.

The R bulbs do help... The 147 is much better for coping with the aftermarket xenons..

Has anyone actually done a legal upgrade to HID yet? I only assume it requires correct projector lense style headlights. Is the self levelling set-up inside the unit itself?

Or is this even realisitic due to needing windscreen wipers on the headlights and not have the wiring to enable these.

No. There are sensors on the front & rear suspension

There are no wipers, it is just washer jets.
