It needs to breathe!!

hey guys, need a little advice.

ive got a '98 156 2.0TS and its got its service coming up and i know the air filter needs a change as its knackered!!
is it worth sticking with an OE filter or an aftermarket one. what will the diferences be between the 2... apart from a better induction note, and what is the likley difference in cost?

cheers guys!!

Re: It needs to breathe!!

I've just changed my stock one. I used a BMC Sports Filter from EB Spares (about £40 all in) and also changed the stock air intake over to a GTA intake (about £20 all in). I did them about a week apart from each other. The change in Air Filter seemed to give more low end torque and I also noticed an increase in mpg. The new intake pipe gave better throttle response and a better growl to the engine note.

As a side note I'm now trying to find a way to get more air into the area where the intake pipe feeds from. Has anyone tried anything similar?

Getting more air in to the air feed is not as straight forward as it might appear. It might work at lower speeds but often works adversly at higher speed.

For OP - a properly designed induction will give you quite some improvement.

look through the pages here to see what induction system people used on the alfa day and the benifits they got - rolling road figures before and after...
