Q2 in a t-spark?

By using a 166 t/s gearbox? Errr…… possibly…….

I’m guessing here and as I own a V6 I’ve not done it but…. The 166 t/s uses a similar gearbox to the 156JTD. The gearing is shorter obviously but it’s a v6/JTD style box that you can fit a Q2 into which has been modified to fit a twin spark – I think they just changed the bell housing.

I’ve fitted a 3.0 166 box to my V6 156 so I know it can be done. There are a few differences with a t/s that would need to be overcome:

The slave cylinder is different. On a 156/147 T/S its in the bell housing, on a 166 (+145/155) its on the top so you’d need to sort that out.

You could use V6/JTD gear linkage if that’s different

Mounts are different, could maybe use a 156 v6 subframe and gear box mount - which'll require a 156 v6 diff housing too....

The primary problem is 166’s use a DMF so the clutch is different and a DMF is not a desirable feature and I don’t think you can use a t/s clutch as the 166 uses a pull type clutch rather than a push type.

If this could be overcome, then potentially you could use a 166t/s bell housing to fit a 6speed box….

Just an idea…..

Re: Q2 in a t-spark?

The 166 box fitted the 156 because they were both V6s (basic same engine.

JTD boxes do not fit V6s, it's a GM box with a different bolt pattern.

TS boxes are intercangable between any TS engine (except 155 Q4 or any 75).

The TS is easier to fit with a Quafe diff than it is to fit a V6 box to and then you'd want to fit a Q2 to the V6 box.

The Fiat 126 was far more fun to drive than the 127.

Re: Q2 in a t-spark?

the 166 t/s uses a variant of the v6 box, alfa modified the bell housing to fit the t/s. Its not a normal t/s box on a 166...

Re: Q2 in a t-spark?

And I'm pretty sure the JTD's a variant of the V6 box too

Yeah, they are interchangeable too, I think Monstro said someone in SA had fit one too a supercharged 3.7 for longer-legged cruising..

Re: Q2 in a t-spark?

And regarding fitting the Q2 to a 166 TS gearbox, and modding it to fit in a 156 or 147, its probably not worth it given the cost of the Quaife unit, unless your going to do the work yourself and you have lots of time but no money..

I don't suppose anyone has done it yet..

In theory I could do it with the spares I have...... In practice i'd probably be a PITA..... It's question..... or is that rhetorical?
