Cheap parts!!

Hi - just thought I'd share this with you all....

Needed a new rad for my GTA, so checked local Alfa dealer out of interest, he quoted £550 all in to replace (usually £635 he said). Then spoke to my indie who services and says they're a pain to get other than thru Alfa and he quoted £300 for ther rad plus fitting so around £550 also.

Had a look on internet & managed to get a new OE Valeo rad for £161 incl. DHL to my indie via Alfaman - very good, quick service! So all in its going to coat me £350....a bargain!!

Cheers!

Re: Cheap parts!!

i had a quote like that from my local indi for my 2.0 156, he wanted £640 parts and fitting!!! almost laughed down the phone!

tried a different indipendent and same rad, parts and fitting was only £275... was a bit of a drive away but was more than worth it, shows a bit of hunting can save you alot of money!!

Re: Cheap parts!!

just had a new rad fitted at my local garage on my 2.0 TS, they charged me £310.50 all in inc the VAT. This is way cheaper than either my local Alfa Garage or my local indi Alfa specialist.

Went thru partsgateway.co.uk who I found on a yahoo search. You put in what you need & then they come back in 24hrs with 3/4 dealers or breakers who have the part. You click on a link to the dealer you choose, quote the ref given, give them a call and you're away...! Very good serice plus the guy at Alfaman is obvioulsy an Alfa nut/nerd so you know you're in good hands!!!

Re: Cheap parts!!

£550 to replace a rad is just silly.

It's actually not that difficult.

I reckon you could fit it in 2-3 hrs if you knew what you were doing.

Re: Cheap parts!!

Replaced my 2.0 one in 5 hours. Was last feb in failing light and numb hands from the cold. Cost me 80 quid for the rad and 20 quid on coolant. :-)

Re: Cheap parts!!

Have a look on ebay. You can get a nissens Aluminium one for around £80

The aluminium ones last longer and are lighter then the copper ones.

Re: Cheap parts!!

Hi - quick update...
The rad I got from Alfaman was aluminum according to the guy that fitted it for me and had a Valeo sticker on. Said he hadn't seen one like it before but it fitted fine.. Assume that'll last longer and won't corrode?

Have a look on partsgateway.co.uk as well or call Alfaman.co.uk direct as I did & they'll give you a price over the phone

Yes some of the Valeo ones are aluminium. They are virtually identical to the nissens ones.

Re: Cheap parts!!

Anyone paying more than £250 + VAT for a new rad, supplied and fitted, wants their head checking. You can get them on eBay for £80-90, and fitting is 2-3 hours for a decent mechanic.

Personally, I got one on eBay for £80 + £10 delivery, and paid my Alfa specialist mechanic £50 to fit it for me, he also changed the coolant and replaced a couple of old clips with jubilee clips.

Re: Cheap parts!!

had a similar experience with the air con condenser on my car, alfa quoted £240 for the part, couldnt find it from any of the local factors, after a few hours on the net i found a nissens part number, and the garage ordered one thru a motorfactors, £140, woo!
