Upgrading a 146

Hey guys

I've just bought my first ever Alfa Romeo and im looking to upgrade the engine. I am ideally looking to spend under a 1000 on the engine but can do more if necessary. Can anyone give me advice on what parts i should get and where i can get them from?

Thanks a lot

Re: Upgrading a 146

It very much depends on what engine you have in your 146. If you have a TS. don't bother with the cams - you have VVT.

The quickest will be to plonk in a free flow de-cat exhaust - induction kit and then squadra chip and re-map.

Doing any of those in isolation will not help. Power is very much related to how well the car can breathe in, breathe out and of course actually USE the extra air.

Next step will to flow the head. Then if you have an oldish (<99) 2.0L you can put in a newer (>01) 1.8 crank - they are lighter stroke, etc all the same - hence more power.

Of course you can do the cams, but it will have to be remapped at the same time!

Cams would be my choice too. That is the easiest way to get more power without opening the engine. And the Exhaust decat route is good too.

I'd just fit a decent filter and exhaust, maybe a chip/remap. It ain't ever gonna be that powerful without spending a fortune! (although a lightened flywheel is very good)

I'd spend more on the suspension and brakes. You can get coilovers for well under a grand and some decent pads and stainless lines will improve things!

I would agree there brakelines and discs and pads and coilys are the way forward all that has transformed my car.
