147 trackday mods

I'm planning on doing some trackdays in my 147 sillyspeed this year.

I'm considering getting some wheels and tyres for track use. Are there any recommendations for wheels/rubber for track use? Is it worth going for something with a lower profile tyre, or just stick to the stock sizes with something stickier on it?

Re: 147 trackday mods

Toyo R888's are pretty good for track days and I believe they are road legal too. I'd go for a weight reduction on the wheels, but they tend to cost a fair bit of money though - wider wheels should equal better grip.

Depends on what you want to do and how much money you want to spend. Personally I'd get some cheap standard wheels from ebay, possibly 17's as they tend to be 7.5 wide(?!) and put some track rubber on them. Improving the brakes is also a must for track days.

Cheers,

Mark

Re: 147 trackday mods

as mark, toyo r888, yoko and a few others do road legal track tyres, they will need a bt of warming up and they don't wear well on the uk roads - use them to drive to and from the track.

17"'s are a good idea, most alfa 17's are 7j wide, gta rims are 7.5j.
fit 215 or 225's.

Re: 147 trackday mods

Any recommendations for wheel manufacturers to look at?

Some of the 'cheap' alloys I've seen are heavier than the standard wheels. With the explosion of the modding scene over the last few years, there's now a plethora of allow wheel makers out there, and I've no idea who's good any more.

the O.Z. Ultraleggera was always a safe bet. Still worth the money?
