Well Happy Rear Badge replacement 156 - A Guide ! !

.
I fitted a new rear badge today i have the SW but the sedan should be very similar.

Step 1 : Coffee & cigarettes

2: The tools you need

3: the current badge - looks baaad

4 & 5 : 10 phillips bolts in total to remove. 4 popper screws.

6: you need to reach in and unclip the boot light before being able to see / undo this screw....

Re: Rear Badge replacement 156 - A Guide ! !

.
13 : new badge (left) is different material, black backed, thinner, and lighter... suits me i guess

14: don't forget the little seal from the old badge

15: this part was tricky ! ! i managed to totally loose the white cover of the spring but i found the e clip fitted just fine over the new badge end / spring without it, holds the badge firmly in place no probs

16 & 17 : swivel check . . .check

18 : soooooo much better

Took me just over an hour of cruisey work.

Hope this helps someone!!

Hi there - I see you're in NZ as well. Where did you get your badge and how much was it? I need to do the front one...

Hey,
Easiest to order from Alfa NZ only about $90 i think for the front.
You'll just need your chasis#.

Let me know when you get it i have a guide for that also.

Ok here is my tip for fitting the rear badge. But first here is my process, as described ABOVE JAM A RAG IN THE BOOT CAVITY TO CATCH THE PARTS (very important)...then disassembled, I used an o-ring pick to hook the E-Clip but a small screwdriver will do.
Once ready to reassemble Lubricate the Badge shaft and fit the O-ring then place the new badge on the car, there will be a little messing with the spring that sits under the badge on the exterior of the car, the o-ring pick was very helpful with this.
Now for my tip…get the small coil spring and compress it right down as far as you can get it, then tie it up with cotton, I looped it round 3times on 2 sides (so it compressed evenly)then put a little Vaseline on the end, this helps hold it in place then fitting it on the shaft. With the spring compressed it is just a matter of placing the white washer on the end, this should now be below the E-clip notch and with vice grips (just easier not to have to keep gripping the handle in the confines of the boot lid) placed the E-clip. Once the E-clip engages the notch on the shaft I just used a screw driver to nudge it into place, then cut the cotton...Done in less than 30min.

Alfa Romeo 166

The little sealing from the old badge broke into two pieces when I removed the old badge :S do I really need that sealing? if yes , where can i find one?

And i can not fit the spring under the badge , so hard to get that one in place..

Just followed this guide and changed my badge.

Got it from Alfashop. What a difference! Old one was faded and corroded at the bottom.

I used a mini crow bar and 'electrical taped' the circlip to the end of a screwdriver. Luck must have been on my side as I got it on in one, looks like it could have been a disaster with that spring catapulting the washer & circlip off!

Great guide!

Great guide itsNotskywalker — thanks a lot! Your pictures made this job a breeze. The hardest part was finding a replacement rear badge in the first place, but good old eBay came up with the results in the end.
By the way, if anyone else is thinking of attempting this, go for it. I am far from mechanically minded, but I managed the whole job in less than an hour. If you can assemble flat-pack furniture then you can do this.
