cheap chips off ebay

hi all , anyone bought cheap performance chip for 147 2.0 ts ?
got 1 for 2.99 off ebay promises 8-25 bhp .got an email 4 instructions on fitting which involves disconnecting the air temp sensor and putting a wire resistor in the terminals and leavin the sensor off its plug .
i don't fancy this idea sounds a botch job ,if i'd known it fitted like this i'd of saved my cash .only just bought the car and under warranty think i'll leave well alone dont want 2 blow summat up !
any thoughts anyone?

Re: cheap chips off ebay

The way that these things "work" is by adjusting the output from one of the sensors read by the ECU which tricks it into overfueling your car ... which can cause it to "coke" up (similar to running with the manual chock on all the time on old (very old) cars) ...

don't fit it what ever you do ...

edit: just re-read your entire post ... so it basically tells the ECU that the air temperature is constant ... these sensors are on the car for a reason ... don't cluck about with it unless you know what you're doing ... if something seems too good to be true ... it usually is ...

I'm getting a few of these when I pick the new one up, I figure if I link a few together it'll make a vast improvement.

I hope santa doesn;t bring me one of these; she might get a bit upset when I throw it into the fire
