Remapping is it worth it??

Hi everyone

I have a 1.9JTD 159, I am getting ok mpg (dont worry I wont raise that subject again) I was wondering is the remapping really worth it??
I average about 25-30K per year motorway miles, and I dont mind the consumption but I have read quite a lot of threads saying to get the remapping done?

Can anyone recommend it,?
is it worth it for the mileage I do?
and how much does it cost?

any help would be great
may thanks
Paul

Re: Remapping is it worth it??

You could specifically ask a remapper to do you a 'fuel economy' remap. It would smooth it out and provide a fair whack more low end torque too, plus a bit up top if you are lucky. I reckon you should see +5mpg if you drive it just the same.

even a performance written map will still have better economy on long trips at a steady speed as the car will run more efficent

True, I got 29mpg yesterday on a run from York to Preston and back with loads of traffic at both ends and I wasn't hanging about either, can't fault that really

dodgy 3.0 V6, bit of a mishmash as it has 3.2 plenum and what looks like GTA injectors. Cams are 3.0, I want the GTA cams.

Its not bad at all on a long run but thirsty as owt crawling in traffic. Plus it has the 2.5 gearbox so when you are cruising you could do with a 7th gear, 3,000rpm at 70mph in 6th. Tops out at an indicated 160mph at 7k rpm

43mpg is fantastic, I don't get that from my 1.8 diesel mondeo shed. 37 round town, 40 on a long run but going over 70mph knocks that right down. Fuel is 10% more though so your 43mpg on diesel is only as good as 39mpg on petrol.. But I'd rather have a quick diesel than a petrol that does 39mpg anyday, it's have to be a 1400cc or something to manage that..
