Business phone line

Tomorrow, a BT engineer will be visiting to install an extra phone line for my new job.

Can I assume that he will only run an extra cable from the junction box on the front of our house? Or will he be running a new line to a new box first?

And, given that our office will be upstairs, can I get him to install the master socket for this new line in the right room? Or will he want it to be downstairs?

He'll probably fiddle around with a junction box first then run a new line into your house. You can ask him to put the master socket anywhere, makes no difference to him I expect. Although the offer of a cup of tea and choccy biccies will probably make him more co-operative.

He's turned up, and has spent about 4 hours now working off our property. Apparently lines from our house to nearest access point are sorted, but the ones from there to the next in the daisy chain are being a pain. He has been supplied with tea so far.

I think his job has been made harder, because they've actually put in an order for 2 additional phone lines (since me and Mrs Bazza have both just got a job with them, both working from home). I'm not really sure how necessary that is - you'd think one between us would have been workable. Oh well.

Then once you've got the phone line in you'll order a broadband connection for it.

Congrats on the job front, must have missed that thread

He's had to dig up a neighbours driveway.

Yeah, it seems that the set up our employer has chosen - separate phone lines - means that after this, we'll have three separate phone lines and three separate broadband accounts all to the same address!

Thanks!

I'd known I was being made redundant for a good while, so was already searching as the time ran out on my old job. As it turned out, I was unemployed for an hour before I got the phone call confirming a new job offer following an interview the week before. Mrs Bazza did even better, she got her new job a week before leaving the old one!
Got a nice few weeks between the two to relax for a while too.

Yeah, I did think that using Lync, Skype or something similar, we could easily cope with only one business line. But seemed easiest to just go with it.
