If you can't do it in VI you aren't doing it right.

I'm a fan of vi and I use it for everything other than coding. Without code completion, auto-indent, refactoring, declaration and reference following etc. offered by the more modern editors, bashing out code in vi is a bit laborious.

The best thing about it compared to Visual Studio is that it seems to have disposed of access and compatibility for Visual Basic (or any BASIC for that matter); the worst programming language in the world!.

I must admit, I am not a VI, VIM or EMACS person. I despise them all.

So you're just a secretary then? Excel, Word and the likes?

Agreed

Before I retired I used Visual Studio for windows based stuff but for anything else it was Eclipse

You're all missing the point. Microsoft has made a decent editor for Linux. LINUX! Just a couple of years ago that would have been unthinkable. And it's not bad to boot.

Maybe they wanted to prove themselves after forcing the diabolical Windows 8 UI onto Server 2012.

I haven't had the pleasure of using Windows Server for quite a few years.

Other than the UI, 2012R2 is a not that bad.
