Cancelling sky!

To try and stop haemorrhaging money we decided to cancel sky, we had everything but the movies. It cancelled today and i feel like I've made a terrible mistake. The sports can burn in hell that was a complete waste of money but documentary section and general channels I watched but didn't realise I actually did!
I thought I mainly watched BBC and C4 but forgot that most of the time I'm actually watching paying channels.
So basically what I'm saying is if you think your sky is a waste of money it isn't you actually do watch it but you don't really know it!

I just spent all morning watching a VH1 special on Gwen Stefani. I don't know what a Hollaback girl is. All I know is that I want her dead.

Cancelled ours yesterday too but now at 1k a year its just not worth it anymore. Did you have to spend an hour on the phone while they tried to talk you out of it?

If you have decent internet, get a NOW TV box you can get one with 3 months of the channels you're missing for about 30

I cancelled Sky about 5 years ago - best thing I ever did because it is pretty much ALL c**p. Murdoch and his cronies are rich enough without pumping hours of imported pay-TV into our sitting rooms. I have never watched football so that isn't a loss - and I understand that BT Sport is pinching a lot of the coverage now?
Freeview and Freesat have a decent but small selection of programmes, and if you are really desperate you can subscribe to Netflix/Amazon Prime etc etc.
Plenty to do in life without being a slave to the telly. De-tox

Cut out the premium channels and sky is only 22 a month. We also have Amazon prime at 79 a year. Between them there isn't enough day to watch that much TV.

I don't watch that much TV 3 hours a day at a guess.
I think it's the fact that I can see programs that I wasn't overly interesting in on the sky planner that I can't watch anymore. A forbidden fruit scenario

Like all things in life. Ultimately you get what you pay for.

Sky is a premium TV service for a premium price. It's reliable, easy to use and has plenty of content.

There are cheaper alternatives, obviously - ranging from not watching TV at all right through to having a mini broadcast lab in your house and speaking entriely in acronyms to people in anoraks on dodgy websites where you can get every channel from Alaska to Buenos Aires.

Pick one that suits.

But for the lazy amongst us who just want an easy life we remain with Sky, pay the money, watch anything we want and try not to moan about it. I even pay the extra 9 quid per month for full box replacement. I'm a murdoch tart!

I cancelled virgin tv a few miserable hairshirt wearing years ago......just sick of paying for the utter kak that always seemed to be on

In the end, of course, what's on depends on the punter.

I'm thinking of going back to something.....

Is that Hannah Montana still on?

Presumably KODI is just an interface, but is it basically enabling piracy, or am I missing summat?

Kodi is XBMC.

It's just a media player.

Rather use a good digi receiver and a rotational big dish than stuff more money into Murdoch and his cronies pockets!

I miss that here as the regs are so bloomin' restrictive, so be warned, HA's for the over 55's stick all sorts of 'You can't do this, and you must do that's' in a big fat book, so everyone can rot away at a controlled boring pace.

I agree Sky has a huge content but more and more stuff is now only in the Store that you have to pay even more for. For example with all the Back to the Future stuff on lately we watched episodes 2 & 3 on ITV 2 but missed the 1st. Never mind I thought, will just watch it on Sky, and it was only on in the Store to buy! Plus we used to look forward to Fridays when the new movies came out, than that all changed about 6 months ago when it all changed and we may only have recognised just one of the films, all the rest being cheap B movies. Sky are just getting greedy now and the more that leave might force them into delivering a better service. By just putting in a little work you can watch anything that Sky offers for free. At first it wasn't worth it but now with the annual Sky price rises and extra costs just to watch what you want it is worth it. With all the packages and a few Store purchases you are paying over 100 a month. That's more than I spend on fuel altogether and people moan about getting 10mpg less than they should.

I'm trying to read between the lines.....

Are people watching pay for content without paying or is it just a gateway to additional free content?

I'm not asking to be difficult - I just want to know if it's worth my having a look at or is it full of ****e that I wouldn't want to watch (like most of the freeview channels), or is there good stuff out there, but it's ethically iffy?

if nicking from Murdoch could be described as ethically iffy.....

In reality it is a legal media player......but it also is ethically iffy as it is an easy TV interface for watching any premium TV/Movie or Sports channels that you can get "unofficially" on your PC.

It depends what you think about watching a match on your PC...would you think of it as piracy ??

My son for some unknown reason supports Bayern Munich...can't think why when he could have the joys of his Father's Leeds United !!!
Any match can be watched on Sky Bundesliga albeit in German commentary but the picture quality is very good....it's just about finding a decent stream.

I only use the Sports channels for live matches but there are endless possibilites.

My dad ditched Sky about a year ago and went to a Virgin Media package.

As it also includes internet I think he is saving something like 50 per month, but still getting most of the channels that were any good.
