Why do I have to log in everytime?

So - I am on a Mac and use OSX - previously Yosemite and now El Capitan.

In the last week whenever I go to Ebay, Facebook, Alfaowner and a number of other sites I am a member of I always appear as a newbie and have to log in.

I have ticked the "Remember Me or Keep Me Logged In" box on each site when I do log in but the next time I go there I have to login.

Until last week I just clicked on the relevant sites where I had done the "keep me logged in" option in my "favourites" bar and just went straight there.

This started a week ago on Yosemite and has continued with El Capitan - so I am guessing it is something to do with a setting I have inadvertently screwed - ideas anyone?

My settings are set to "always allow" - although I have some strange messages about cookies recently - I'll investigate a bit more -thanks.

Is your browser set for Private Browsing by default?

Sometimes when I've been one handed typing browsing sensitive data, I have left it on and that's had the same impact

Not on private browsing -what is that btw? (ahem).

Changed the settings to enable on sites I visit (rather than all) and that seems to have fixed it.

Thanks for the help and suggestions.
