Need help adjusting screen resolution

Hope one of you tech savvy bods can help me here...

I have two identical monitors running off my HP Laptop (one on HDMI and the other on VGA). It is in "Extend" mode.

My main monitor is set at a resolution, (via Control panel windows 8), of 1920 x 1080 (recommended), which works great.

The secondary monitor is automatically set at a Resolution of 720 x 1280, and it will not let me change it for a higher resolution. I can just about work with it as it is, but it is not ideal.

In Control Panel, the drop down Resolution menu is greyed out and it won't let me alter it.

Any ideas how I change the resolution on the secondary monitor?

Both monitors are BenQ GL2250H models.
Laptop is an HP Pavillion with 8GB RAM. Intel i5-4200

Any ideas? Thank you in advance!

Silver 156 GTA SW, Q2, Koni FSD's, Eibach springs and anti-roll bars, CDA induction, re-map, Wizard/Pud exhaust - fantastic!

That sounds like the VGA is maxed at that resolution. What resolution is the laptop screen itself?

I'm not using the laptop monitor at all (it is closed but on), but the resolution of that screen is at 1366 x 788.
