PC racing games

I'm jealous of the Gran Turismo lot - but I'm not about to splurge hundreds on a console I'll only play one game on.

There must be some of us who have PCs capable of gaming. Can we get a big enough group of us together and agree on a racer to play amongst us?

I would suggest Assetto Corsa. But I'd be equally happy with Grid: Autosport, Dirt 3, Race 07. Even GTA5!

Anyone?

Sorry, meant to reply to say that if you get this going I might see if I can get your chosen game to run on my ancient PC. However, as it's died on its arse that response is rendered a bit pointless.

It wouldn't be hundreds for a cheap used PS3 Bazza. At least you'd know there are some players in GT6......and you wouldn't need to be jealous anymore! Come on, even BF has jumped in and he (says he) didn't have a telly!

It's 180 for a brand new one from Argos.

For a man with no mortgage, a GTA and a V8 Audi that's peanuts, surely?

I'd rather spend it on games for my much more capable PC though really.

Yes, I do recognise the dichotomy here. Trying to encourage you all to spend money on PC games while refusing to spend myself on a console.

But there are salient points in favour of my approach:

I'm asking you all to spend as little as 10-15 perhaps.
You should be able to use the joypads you already have for your console on your PC.
I'm basically saving you from yourself, showing you a far superior gaming machine is available.

You can get a second hand PS3 on eBay for less than 60... GT6 is 15 at most.

No-one else plays geeky PC games

Is a good quality gaming PC as little as 10-15? we don't have a PC apart from work lap top. Some fruit based stuff for surfing, photos and music.

Not brand new. But I think more often than console games, they drop dramatically, and places like Steam have very regular sales.

I'm loath to buy a PS3 because I did exactly that with a PS2 and GT5 ... and I must have played a good hour of it before going back to my PC.

It's a good idea. I have just bought a mega PC to run Project Cars and I have to say, it's a brilliant simulator.

Guys,

Just can't get into racing games on my XBOX. They are just not believable. Bought some but don't use them.

The weird thing is if there is a vehicle in a first person shooter, maybe Far Cry 4 or something, it just feels better. I think it's about getting absorbed in the game universe and then we can suspend disbelief. In a focused racer I'm always aware of the 'car's' shortcomings in every sense. Mainly that its, err, not a car. Even bought a seat and wheel, but it was like alcohol free wine.

If anyone lives in my neck of the woods I would be up for a bit of Karting competition though. We have a great indoor track and there are some price deals in the week. All I need is another loose end pensioner and we could have a proper race. They give lap time printouts too.

Alex.

@Alex, your location does not show in your Avatar, so you might want to add it if you are looking for a race partner!

In other news, world still refusing to revolve around Bazza.

People just don't realise how important I am.

Seriously, I wasn't expecting people to go out and buy a PC. But I suspected there would be people out there who had a PC perfectly capable of playing a racing game or two and we might be able to get a few together.

I'd be up for this, are you on Steam bazza? I've a Ferrari 360 wheel with pedals which I use for Asseto Corsa, rFactor 1 and 2 and DiRT Rally (early access on Steam, superb rally sim!).

Ignore the console noobs, they wouldn't know a true gaming experience if it slapped them in the face

I am on Steam - bazzabear (surprisingly). Have Assetto Corsa too, but none of the others you mention. I do have a wheel, but not used it yet since I got Assetto Corsa.

Got GRID: Autosport? I know coyotes_uk has that one too.

There's @Alan walker and @garygfw higher up playing Project Cars too. I don't have that, but would happily buy if there's enough of us to be worth it.

Do you guys have any others too?

Hmm. Apparently I don't know how to tag people.

I've been into PC racing games, Live For Speed being the main one for the feel and ease of multiplayer. It's a bit quiet there at the moment waiting for the next major update. (runs on older systems no problem though)
Also got Assetto Corsa, but the feel hasn't clicked with me yet and the user interface has some way to go.
I got a cheap deal on a load (about 12) of old racing sims like GTR2, just because I wanted a working copy of GT Legends - I haven't tried half of them yet.
Previously tried iRacing, but that's serious stuff and a subscription to match. Tracks are great, hard to master.
I'll keep an eye out on here for a meet up. But in the meantime, playing GT6 with other guys from here has proved huge fun to a PCsim snob like me!

Well Dex and I have connected on Steam. Coyotes_uk is also on there (but doesn't have Assetto Corsa as yet). Anyone else going to put their name down and see if we can get enough of us together to be worth organising something?

I'm bazzabear on steam (surprisingly).
