Apple Pay

So this launched in the UK this week,

You can only do it if you have an iPhone 6 or Apple watch. It uses RFID the same as your contactless debit card.

Seems good, useful if you dont have your card to hand or if youre a woman and its at the bottom of your purse. Your phone is more likely to be in your hand.

It also brings the ability to use it online, so if you dont have your card to hand (I never do when im doing online stuff) you can effectively use Chip and Pin security online

Anyone got an iPhone 6 and used it yet?

Yes and it’s often unable to make the most of it globally. I had a mobile which could surf the web and do all sorts of iPhone stuff long ago. Shame really, Panasonic or Sony could have really have become as big as Apple is in terms of market capitalisation.

Think its more the design that the Japanese companies fall down on, the tech is there but not the package

They were very keen on the flip phone design but that’s simply because it seemed to work really well with the Japanese customer base. Mind you, the iPhone really did change the mobile phone concept using fully a touch screen and that proved popular everywhere.

It's NFC, not wireless.

It'll still turn out to be insecure in 6 weeks time.

NFC is wireless is it not? Unless we are being picky about radio bands.

Even if it does get hacked tho you are not liable for any of the spending that is done on it, the bank will refund it no problem

In May I got a 40 euro charge on my credit card, it was from a car hire company who I used 15 months previously. At the time they swore that they would only hold my details for 7 days after departing their miserable shores. No explanation.

Contact credit card company "We'll send you a form!"

Four weeks later Nada.

Next 'phone call, 'what form?' not the way we do it, etc
"you will have to contact the company for whom you have no details, because you have no contractual relationship with them, and ask them why they decided to charge you 40 euros" If they don't have a plausible excuse reason we can request a chargeback.

Absolutely pathetic!!

No 2 on the Git list

Are you folding?

That isnt right... especially if it was a credit card. You, by law, are entitled to a full immediate refund for a transaction like that, that you do not recognise or did not authorise.

Even on a debit card there is a process for a charge back on an immediate basis

yup, but welcome to the real world where your half-arsed financial services company are staffed by inadequately trained staff who have no idea what should be happening.

BTW, 'Yay Tesco Credit Card!"
