Apple music or spotify??

I've just updated the pile of rubbish that is the iPhone 6 now I have an option to sign up for Apple music. I currently use spotify the quality is awesome specially using the extreme option for streaming/downloads, it's 9.99 pm and it's pretty decent I see Apple music is 9.99 pm too.
Is anyone using Apple music if so does it have the same collection of songs as iTunes and can you save playlists and listen offline? I really miss playing the Beatles and Ac/Dc on my spotify playlist

Never bothered with Spotify, updated my 5S last night. Didn't like AM at first but had a play with it and it's not bad at all. Course, i have nothing to compare it to but AM seems easy to use and pretty good quality audio

Will see how much hammering it gets as to whether it's worth the 9.99/month. Have a feeling I'll be upgrading the phone sooner than intended to one with a big fat memory capacity

So why would I use one of these services rather than just having music on my phone?
MalcQV likes this.

Im liking these music streaming services 10 a month is decent value I could easily spend 10 a month on 10-15 songs through iTunes. I like that I can play music I wouldn't really buy like Kansas for instance cheesey rock!

On spotify you can download music so you can play it when you're offline so having decent sized memory is quite handy I'm not so sure if AM can do this if it can then I might consider swapping

I wasn't so sure about streaming services until I got a 3 months premium free trial with Spotify
You can listen to pretty much any album you want, you can download and listen to what ever you've chose for when you have no wifi/3/4g/driving once you get bored remove albums/songs and start again. It's also great for discovering new music and songs you may never of heard of or forgotten about

Oh and give it to kids to keep them entertained for a while I'd pay a tenner solely for that

I just spent all morning watching a VH1 special on Gwen Stefani. I don't know what a Hollaback girl is. All I know is that I want her dead.

You can download music on AM for offline play as well. Hence my memory upgrade being needed. Presumably, though I haven't looked into this, if you cancel the subscription then all music downloaded for offline play is automatically removed

I would imagine so, Apple aren't really known for giving freebies out

I need to see if this is iPhone only or if it works on laptop iTunes as well. If it works, the trick is to download and burn to that old school contraption 'The CD' while you can

Office Chair.

My reception with Three especially at home (though I do have what BT call Infinity) is shat and not much better at work, I'd be listening to pauses more than starties.

I'll stick with good 'ole fashioned ripped CD's.

Here's another question.

On the old Music app, if you looked at songs, the very first entry was something along the lines of 'shuffle all'. I can't find that setting any more. How do I put my whole library on random now?

You can and can't. You can still shuffle all - Select songs from the red drop down, click on a song you fancy listening to first and then press the shuffle button.

The shuffle all option has disappeared from the track listing

So I have to pick the first song? My indecision will lead to it taking ten minutes to start the player!

Does the Apple service allow you to store music so it can be played off-line? I wouldn't be a subscriber to Spotify without this - my music would stop as soon as I left the house!

It seems to integrate 'music' (which is just stuff stored on your phone) with 'Apple Music' which is the streaming thing. So anything you've got on your phone will still be on your phone, and still playable.

On Spotify you can make a local copy of anything in their catalogue, even whole albums. These tracks will stay there until you delete them or you cancel the subscription. I was wondering if the Apple thing is the same.

I would imagine it works like that, as long as you pay the subscription you have access to the tracks

Oh right, I see the distinction you were making. I'd thought you meant stuff you'd ripped from CD.

From what I've read elsewhere, yes, you can download songs for offline listening.

I liked Sony's Music Unlimited as it was available on multiple platforms.

It was missing a fair few artists and couldn't justify the expense.

So binned it in the end for buying an album on Amazon every month or 2 instead.
