Euro Truck Simulator

Just putting it out there, who else plays?

Really enjoyable game to play actually, huge amounts of Europe opened up to drive, no riots round Calais!

I believe there's a multiplayer mod these days - so if you can find others who play it, we could plan a convoy.

There is indeed a multiplayer mod, need to register on World of Trucks to download it. Can be fun until some randomer deliberately crashes into you!

Would be up for an AO convoy though!

I've always wondered who plays these types of games...

What is the overall aim? Is it just a sim? Or are there challenges and game type aspects?

Other random ones include farming simulator, German bus simulator or goat simulator

I've played a bit of the truck one. It's quite a zen experience. You're driving, but not to go as fast as you can. Just relax, stick some music on, and cruise.

It didn't keep me occupied for a very long time, I have to admit, but it was strangely enjoyable.

I guess there are a few aims to the game.
The game starts off with a big driveable section of Europe, though they have just added an Eastern Europe and Scandinavia expansion. You can either drive for other companies or, buy your own truck yourself and take what ever loads you want. As you level up your driver, after completing runs, it opens up different types of loads and better trucks.

You can then open your own garages and build up your fleet.

There is also a big online community, where you can just carry on driving but online, so you interact (on the roads) with other drivers from across the world. Or, join up to convoys online. I did one from Scandinavia to southern Germany and there were like 30odd trucks. Was kinda cool!

Plus there is a huge mod community too, which opens up lots of US style trucks, different trailers and loads of map extensions.

Ultimatly though, as Mr Bear says, you can just chill out and drive!

How does it work driving from one country to another... if that journy is say 500 miles, does it take 9 hours?

Can you go mad and just crash into everyone :giggle:

Is the multiplayer mod integrated now then? Or did you have to install it separately? Haven't played it since that came out.

Greener, the distances are scaled, so it doesn't take hours. But drives can be quite long if you want to go long distances.

As Mr Bear says it is scaled down, a drive like that may still take half an hour to 40mins maybe! I've never thought to look at the time when I've started/ended one!

Plus, you can take the limiter off and drive faster than 55mph! That brings the time down too!

Did you buy it in the end?
I started by using the xbox controller, which works very well. Have upgraded to a wheel now and the whole experience is elevated. Once I finally got the settings right!

I would also recomend getting the expension packs too, their is the Going East (eastern Europe) and Scandinavia ones. Plus a whole host of map mods which can expend the world. Plus, their is American Truck Simulator coming soon too!

Yes I bought it... loving it

I am using the keyboard. I have a PS3 controller, can you use that somehow?

The only issue I have is my computer is a little slow at times randomly, so when it suddenly speeds up I almost crash!

I think it only works with an Xbox controller, which are pretty cheap nowerdays!
Once your used to the game I strongly recomend getting the extra DLC's, such as the Going East and Scandinavia ones. Almost double the size of driveable map!

You can use PS3 controllers on a PC.

See the top comment here:
Connecting PS3 Controller to PC : PS3

From what I read, definitely don't follow instructions you might see elsewhere to use 'MotionInJoy' it has a lot of malware.

Currently yes but, you can download map mods which extend the driveable map. There is one, think its called TSM, which includes southern Italy, rest of France, Spain, Portugal and northern Africa.

Has anyone got a link where I can get those southern maps. I tried it and it was asking me to download some dodgy looking software...

I asked a question to a guy who streams ETS2 online and he said, ProMods and the big Russia map mod work with your existing ETS2 profile. Truck Sim Map is another big map mod but possibly needs a new profile creating!
