Printer

I've had an HP DJ450 (portable with Bluetooth and IRDA )
For donkey's years. But I'm sick to death of HP ink cartridges
gumming up at 30Euros a pop.

So I'm now looking for a compact size laser printer.
A4, B&W or Color[sic] Less that 200 Euros.
Light and irregular use.

Hit me!

I've rarely needed to print and happily had a HP laser and colour inkjet. For cheaper "fakes", you're looking at Canon or Epson I suspect but not sure how robust they'll be. My HP 5L was ace until the rollers got smooth. Lasted me years.

You can get refills but HP, I've noticed, are harder to get refilled consistently.

Yeah and all the "Remanufactured" cartridges I've scouted in France seem to be very hit 'n' miss.
If they were a fiver a pop I'd chance it they're only about half price.

Maybe I'll just stick to going into the office and using the massive Ricoh color all singing and dancing one.....

Lasers are the answer.

I've just resurrected a laser printer I bought in 1991. The toner cartridge in it was bought in about 1994. Plugged it in, loaded a Laserjet 2 driver, and it printed perfect pages. Can't do images for toffee, but for text, it is perfect.

In contrast, my inkjet cannot do 6 months without needing a new cartridge, even if I've barely used it.

I would not use an inkjet again. Very happy with my Samsung ML2950ND compact laser for the past couple or three years. They don't make it anymore though, but hopefully it has been replaced with something just as good.

Using it mostly for text printing and line drawings, but sometimes printing PCB artwork to acetate. It prints accurate enough and black enough for that.

So - general recommendation for Samsung compact lasers from me!

...indeed - it's the quickest way I can get a PCB or two made is to do them myself. No acetate for presentations though - I remember those days of ye olde OHP machine - but now I have a manager who is handy with powerpoint for that so I delegate those to him

The printer sits on the wifi network so I can print from another room - definitely get one with wifi.

Ah, prohibitive postage for individual ones. I normally get 3 sets at once, a lot cheaper.

I got a HP Envy 5530 at Xmas HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One Printer - HP Store UK and think it's bloody good for the money. The HP Connected thing which monitors ink levels and posts cartridges out to you is bloody good as well. https://instantink.hpconnected.com/uk/en Postage included.

...and not only that, the printer spends your money for you when it senses its ink levels are low? Aarghh!

It's £3.49 for 100 pages per month with the unused carried over. Or £7.99 for 300 per month and you can switch between plans. No differentiation between colour or black and white. Works well for us. No extra charges for postage or anything.

I dug out my Samsung 2010R Laser Printer from the loft when my HP was playing up. Worked out of the box, even after a few years in storage, stunk a little while warming up, but working fine. Certainly spits the paper out fast.

It was managers special from Staples, bargain.

Right, after the debacle of the cheap refill cartridges, that were apparently not refilled, (20 Euros down the drain)
I've ordered one of these for ~ the same price as a set of ink cartridges for the old printer. (Inc 1500 page toner cassette)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ricoh-213w-M...dp/B00OCHA4B2/

Ridiculous.

Anyone want a portable HP DJ450 including Bluetooth card and a battery that was never even unwrapped?

Yours for the price of shipping.
