OS Maps App

First look: Ordnance Survey lifts kimono on next-gen map app • The Register

Looks good!

Good luck to them.

Wish there was something similar for France.

That appears to be very similar to the OS Options programme. That isn't a bad thing at all, I'm just surprised it took so long. They were talkimg about something like this when I used to make custom OS maps in 2004-2007!

Is anyone really going to switch from using Google maps... they may have more stuff or better this and that but I probably wont change...

I binned the apple maps after the 1st hour of use because it was useless, even tho they may have fixed it ive stayed with googlemaps

Google maps is rubbish if you're roaming. And by rubbish I means uses up you paltry roaming
data allowance /costs an F'in fortune.

I think OS would be interesting for hiking etc. GoogleMaps is schite for tracks
and pathways.

Maps.me is a great free mapping app as all data is stored on your device meaning you don't need a data connection. It uses Open Street Map data. I've found it fast and accurate, much quicker to use than Google/Apple Maps. It doesn't have much in the way of footpaths etc but for roads it's excellent, and available for many countries.
