TV on an Imac

As it's nearly Christmas and was Black Friday a couple of weeks ago I have treated myself to a shiny new Imac. I want to watch TV on it. I know that Elgato make add on TV for Macs but does anyone actually have any experience of using their products and if so which one?

Aren't there web-based solutions? For a majority of terrestrial TV for instance, you can watch it live on the channels own on demand service. (iPlayer, 4OD, etc)

There are, but you can't record these. The add on solution means the computer becomes a Sky+ box!!!

I hoped they would be but there seems to quite a few Elgato ones to choose from.
I am not bothered about TV on tablets/phones, just on the Mac itself.

Thanks.

No. Have had a Mac Mini connected to our main TV for a few years. Have got the final model with the CD slot before Apple decided to remove it. Have upgraded the memory and it acts as a server for my Sonos Music library.

Have always lusted after the 27inch Imac and as they released the 5k retina display I thought that I should future proof my purchase!
