Help USB Micro to HDMI

I bought a USB Micro to HDMI adaptor for a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 off the internet it doesn't work

Checked so far
HDMI works because it's the one to the BT TV box.
The USB on the tab is OK as it connects OK to the laptop.
Tried a Samsung Galaxy phone with it and it didn't work.
Tried plugging a genuine Samsung power supply to the adaptor it didn't work.
Tried with the WIFI and Bluetooth on and off on the tab it didn't work.
Checked the telly was set to receive from the HDMI input it didn't work.
Tried booting up the tab after connecting to the TV it didn't work.
Tried switching the TV on and off to a booted up Tab it didn't work.

I've asked for a replacement adaptor.

any other suggestions?

Thanks

Oh and I have no intention of hitting anything with a hammer

Not yet, but I tested the Yarvik Noble tab that I gave to my dad with a Micro HDMI and it ran fine on this TV, same Jelly bean OS as the Samsung, so it should in theory just be a plug and play.

Just remembered is it MHL? Nothing else will work. Plus I found the 5 copy cables don't work it needs the MHL to compress the signal.

This will work.

It is marked up as MHL
I think it's a dodgy lead

It's best to get official products when it comes to Samsung

My galaxy 5 doesn't like cheap cables, I got the original and it works perfect

The supplier said it's not compatible even though the web site says it is
I'll pay the extra and get a genuine Samsung one
Full re fund on the way

I think Samsung have 2 specifications of mhl, might not mix with your device.
