Best new mobile phone

I realise there are other threads on the topic, but I wanted up to date views..

I have a Galaxy S3 which I have had for 2.5 years, and all was well until a month ago when it kept turning itself on and off periodically, and then I broke the screen at security at Rome airport, so I thought it a good time to replace.

I have looked (too hard ) at the options, and had almost decided on a HTC mini 2 or a Samsung galaxy S5 mini. I realise the HTC one M8 and S5 full size perform better but I dont want anything bigger than the one I have.

There is also the Galaxy ***** and the iphone 6

The latter 2 are pricey, especially the iphone6.

Basically I use my mobile for calls, texts and some web browsing. Im not interested in watching films etc..

Any thoughts anyone?

I'm in the same boat. I can't believe the price of iPhones, but are they worth the premium?

I use my current Blackberry for phone, text, Whatsapp, BBM, a bit of browsing and I use about 3 Apps currently (mobile banking, my phone company App for checking usage, and one for the Abu Dhabi police which tells you if you have been camera flashed for speeding). I only use these 3 as there aren't that many Apps for Blackberry.

I want to move to Android as there are more Apps (the above 3 + I'd like to have a couple more which I like but don't come on Blackberry) but also I see more Apps for Apple than for Android.

Work emails also can be used on iPhone, but not Android due to Security issues.....

So far I am balancing:

Keep the Blackberry, but upgrade to the one with bigger screen and live without some of the Apps I want. This is cheap and works for work emails best.

Go to Samsung or another Android phone. Cheaper than iPhone but worried about stability and usability and also no work email (which may be a God send TBH)

Go to an iPhone 6 (can you still get 5s new?) which I reckon is stable, usable, works for work email and can give me the Apps I want - BUT costs a small fortune and makes me look like a teenage girl.....

Stability and usability wise my Samsung galaxy S3 has been great. I am edging towards another Samsung to be honest. I have about 10 apps I use and the other advantage about staying on android is I can still use them all...

I think you can read too many reviews (as I have done haha)

From what I have read the iphone6 is the best out there in most areas though significantly not in all, and the 2 where it isnt are quite important, call and signal quality and display screen. The comprehensive review on Techradar asks at the end why the iphone is so much more than the rest when it cant justify it

Stay away from Apple unless you're one of the herd with more money than sense.

I currently have an S4 and if I were to change it it would be for another Samsung. If I wanted to change it now for something other than Samsung it would probably be an LG G3

I can't tell you what is best for you because I don't know your use case.

However, two colleagues have received new phones in the last week, one loves his Sony Experia Zthingy because of the large screen, capability to download films from torrent sites directly on the phone and share his Playstation 4 games across to the phone. The other likes his new HTC Device that is made from a single piece of metal.

Both phones run Android, an OS I personally dislike for it's unnecessary complexity.

Personally I run a iPhone 5s the 5 wasn't good, neither was the 4 but the 4s was a cracking device, I think if I were to stick with Apple I'll only go for s models, I've come to think of it as meaning Second generation as they are much more robust devices than first gen major revisions.

I have a 6 because when they came out I looked to see whether it meant I could get a 5s cheaper - and it turned out that for the combination of storage space and contract I wanted, the 6 was actually cheaper.
So yes you probably can, but the 6 is probably the better deal (without bringing Ghosty's perfectly valid point into consideration).

As for Tony S's post - I would say it would be equally valid to claim that people going for Android phones because "only sheep buy Apple" are in fact being sheep following that rhetoric. Ignore all the fanboy crap in either direction and buy the right phone for you.

Thanks for all the useful suggestions guys.

But I suddenly realised I don't even know where my Nokia is at this present moment in time? :

Exactly. I like my S3 and am used to it. I have android apps and I dont like the lack of ability to change a battery, so I went the Samsung way again, though I did consider an i6

It also irritates me slightly that apple refused to sign up to the global agreement on charger type

No, and now is not the time to point out a mega new phone that trumps the rest

Me too, my 5s (not even a 6) is fabulous I have the option to use a work phone, even to the point I could use it for reasonable personal use (as some of my colleagues do), but currently it is a Windows phone which I don't like. However before that it was Android and I just like the iPhone so much I gave them the HTC Android back.

My last two phones have been the HTC one and HTC m8. Do everything an iPhone does and more and cheaper. Or u could try Google nexus 4/5. Got good reviews and cheap. But I don't know anyone who has one.

Phones are no way like cars.

It's a fallacious analogy.

I would like a new phone.

3" screen, Android 2.4 and a proper keypad please.

They are a bit alike , both consumer products, with a lot of tech inside

So's a Dyson Vacuum cleaner.

Totally different beast.
The two sectors are not at all alike, neither are the products they produce.

Ok so first few days of use...

Im very impressed with it. Its speed is amazing, the oct-a-core is excellent. The screen display is very good, though my screen pic doesn't look too sharp, though it is from my S3

Its very user friendly, though I am used to the Samsung OS.

Its neat design and is very light

Battery life seems ok but I have been hammering it, so not sure what its like in everyday use.
Im now on 4G and it is impressive, its virtually instant loading of internet pages.

All in all Im very pleased...
