Topping Amp/DAC

So, after the debacle of the Fatman MiTube 2, which is
still lost in transit and awaiting a refund from La Post,
I've succumbed to the lack of tunes and (after now having
misgivings about ordering a 2nd Fatman) have taken a totally
different track:

VX1 - TOPPING

Will give it a spin when it arrives tomorrow and if it sounds okay
then I'll keep it....

Looks stunning!
Quite different from the previous contender - you'll need some efficient 'speakers to go with that I think (unless you have a pretty small room)

Do you listen with headphones a lot?

Hey Al,

So yeah, a totally different pitch for sure.

I do use headphone occasionally but the rethink was also due to the Bluetooth/AptX
not really being the best way to listen to stuff from the PC and the external DAC
may be a better bet.

We'll see tomorrow. Amazon ordered, so return will be easy.

I'm still bitterly disappointed by the Fatman fiasco, and replacing it I'd always
have in the back of my head that it's about to fail. It did look good though
and sounded pretty sweet for the few days it was running.

The train :(

It looks simple but simplicity / minimalism is good

Oh and will you be using the analogue input for a different source?

Turned up this morning.

Plugged it in.

NUC computer refused to recognize it as a USB device.

Will fiddle with it until tomorrow. (Drivers etc)

At this point it looks like it's going back on Monday.

It's small, good finish but slightly lightweight.

The supplied AC laptop supply seems a little low rent too.

Fingers crossed.

Interesting choice. Funnily enough this caught my attention the other day.

I have got 2 Topping Amps and for the money they are the Dogs! They will drive a fairly decent set of Mission speakers with no bother. I haven't got a Topping DAC though I have no need. My PC sound is handled by a Behringer USB mixer.

Well so far so good.

The sound is quite precise for such a little beast. Almost as nice as the FatMan. (Which I find strange for a D-amp)
Currently plugged into the MS 902i Avants and is quite capable of driving them.
Which is impressive.

The DAC solution is a good one. (Not a full-blown solution but sounds competent.)
Perfect for the NUC where out-of-the-box you either use the HDMI stream or 3.5mm
output from a Realtek chip which isn't all that.

The VX1 enclosure is about the same size as the NUC, pity it wasn't solid black
all-over as they would have matched. (Blue LEDs on both.)

Auto switch-on of the amp via USB is nifty too.

Sounds like a good choice then
Here's wishing you many hours of listening pleasure!

I'll have to look into these digital amps one day - but probably pretty useless since at 60, my ears probably won't hear the difference any more...
