Camera Advice - Pre Holiday

Hello all,

I'm off to drive around Iceland in a month or so (hopefully, once we've nailed the itinerary) and I don't want to waste the opportunity for fantastic photography.

I have a number of camera's all of which are constrained in some way and recently I've taken to just using my iPhone 5s for its speed, ease of use and excellent overall balance in all kinds of conditions.

I want to take a camera that will be easy to use and give faithful landscape shots but that can also handle bright skys and dark foreboding landscapes without swinging wildly between over and under exposure.

I have a Nikon S9100 travel camera which has fantastic zoom and 'can' take great photos but can also be quite hit and miss. I also have a Fuji S9500 bridge camera that my dad gave me when he last upgraded which I think on the surface might be the best choice but is quite big and unweildy. Finally I have another dadmedown Fuji S3500 bridge camera which sits somewhere between the bigger Fuji and the pocket snapper Nikon.

All three cameras are getting on a bit now and I haven't kept up with technology so it might be time to trade up.

So to those Alfisti with their finger on the pulse... which would you take, or would you bin the lot in favour of something new, and if the latter what would you suggest?

Cheers

Sean

Check out the Nikon 1 Range.

I have a Nikon 1 V1 which I got specifically for the EVF and size.
The only drawback is the lack of a built in flash on that model.

(I don't like the newer V2 or V3 chunkiness.)

So I got an S1 body with a built-in flash for more indoor
point-and-shoot practicality.

Both perform really well.

The Fuji X10 came a close second when I got the V1.

The best camera is the one you always have with you. iPhone then.

Nope. Mrs Pat happened.

Attempt 1 - Mrs Pat "But we are going away next week, we could get it cheaper duty free!"

Attempt 2 - Airport outbound (Brizzle) "Oi got one o' them Kodiak Browners 'n 'an Etch-o-sketcho"

Attempt 3 - Schipol inbound, Mrs Pat "I'm starved, let's get a pizza.......ooohh, they are calling our flight..'

It's never cheaper in duty free.

Try amazon.de.

Even my German colleague can't work out why Amazon.de is cheaper.
Especially for cameras and lenses.

It's currently €274.17 inc shipping to the UK = £218
(+ whatever you bank charges for Euro transactions)

It's £255.99 on Amazon.co.uk

Thanks for the suggestions, I'd like to try to get an increase in fidelity of image and for that, from the quick bit of research I did last night, I'd really like a full frame camera, not sure about system camera's though as dust on the sensor is not a thing I can be arsed with faffing about with.

The Powershot looks to be not much of a move on from the S9100 in real terms.

My old S9500 got cracking reviews at the time so maybe should stick with that.

The only advice I'd give is don't buy a new camera so close to your holidays - it takes a while to familiarise yourself with a new camera if you're going to get the best out of it.
