Smart Watches

A whole new thing or a shiny bauble to boost flagging smartphone sales?

Not entirely convinced myself, I like watches to be watches, can't see how replicating info you have on your smartphone on your wrist can enrich your life.

What do you think?

I don't even see the point of a smartphone, so for me a smart watch is even less appealing.

As long as a phone can make phone calls and send texts, and a watch can tell the time what more do you need?

Heretic. Sundials and smoke signals should be enough for anyone.

I've got a Pebble. I don't really use any of the applications but I find it handy especially in winter when my phone is in my coat pocket or bag and I can't hear it ringing or feel the vibrations it works a treat in letting me know somebody is calling or sending me a text.

It's also handy in meetings at work when you can sneakily read your emails and texts.

Surely glasses with a head-up display would be a much better addition to your phone than a watch!

Smart watches, No No No No No, just on the grounds that real wrist watches should never have a battery of any description.

I do like old tech, but sundials and smoke signals is a step too far.

Mrs K bought me a Seiko 5 for as an anniversary gift. I think it's very smart. However, a smart watch I can live without.

Has anybody seen this oil-filled watch Ressence Type 3 Liquid-Filled Watch Hands-On | aBlogtoWatch
It is crown less . Well worth watching the you tube clip, if you're into timepieces.

Anyway back on topic, theres a watch thread for more traditional horology already

I think i'd like to see what can be done to augment a traditional watch with smart functionality, so it doesn't look like you have a toy on your wrist.

Tread? Even Chopard think it looks naff these days, they've ditched it for the 2014 collection.
