Peak Technology

Sitting in an airport with nothing to do I start to wonder about things.

One thing I notice is that nowadays every T,D & H are prodding their
Tech gadgets like there's no tomorrow.

10 years ago a few road warriors had Palm Pilots, HPaqs or Psions.
now it's big tablet/phones by the bucketful.

15 years ago no one had mobiles but now everyone seems to be mobile
facebooking or AOing.

Have we reached peak mobile tech? Or is this just a plateau before some
major new "innovation" hits the market?

As someone who readily blows hard-earned on gadgets I just don't see
anything to splurge cash on these days....

Incremental shifts for he next few years I think. Lot's of underlying stuff to improve network capacity that will get mislabelled for consumers.

Still some good new improvements on image processing and cameras on the way.

At some point we'll all have brain implants that interact with Bluetooth, phone networks and Wi-Fi.

Everything will be taken care of, from in-head entertainment, SatNav, net-surfing, phone calls, orgasms on-demand, you name it.

Expect to see some pretty strange behaviour in public places from people 'in their own little worlds'. The ability to interact in a meaningful way, with people actually standing in front of you will gradually wither and die.

I guess the Google glass thing is the next bit of "must-have" technology.......

About 25 years ago milady and I went on a trip to Russia - it was just at the start of the "glasnost" revolution as they started letting Westerners in with our "hard" currency - and we went to the Moscow State Circus on one evening - the clowns did a big skit on the West showing us as all decadent and totally fixated on gizmos - ending up with them doing a sort of conga with each of them having a TV set strapped on a frame and fixed before their eyes.......I thought at the time it was pretty prescient

Yes. A lot of the negativity towards G-Glass does appear to
be of the "I-Don'[email protected]"
variety.

3D TVs seem to suffer a bit from the same mentality.

I wonder if people with those concerns ever wear sunglasses

Before smartphones appeared, I expected the next step in mobiles to be for them to get small enough to be wrist worn.

The sheer utility of having a phone which is a mini computer overtook that.

Technology is now starting to get to the point thought that a wrist worn connection to your mobile will start to become commonplace soon. There are already a few examples out there, but none are quite convincing.
