Sounds bars.

Looking to enhance the movie experience to compliment my 3D set up. Does anyone have a sound bar and how do you find the performance?

Have a Philips one that matches the TV.

Has a wireless sub, which make it even easier/tider to set up.

Communicates with the TV through the HDMI link so you don't need an extra remote
or need to turn it on/off. Tele does that all.

The sounds is good. Way better than a TV's speakers and the faux surround sound
works if you have clear paths to the left and right and surfaces for the sounds to bounce off.

It will never be up to a full 4 speaker surround sound set-up, but it is good for what it is and
easy to set up with no wiring required.

Used to have a sound bar and then got a 5.1 surround sound set up. Obviously the sound bar was a 'tidier' set up but the improved sound quality of the new system is hard to beat. I used trunking/conduit to hide the wiring so does not look too messy. Gives an added edge to gaming too.

I dont want wires so a sound bar would be my ideal choice. I went to currys today and the price range is anything from £99 to £600, obviously cheap price will equal cheap sound. I also want samsung so it matches my tv and blu ray player.

We have a Samsung TV and Samsung blu ray player. The Blu ray has Dolby Surround built in, so all I needed to do was hook the optical connection up to my sky box, and a HDMI to the TV. I ignored the speakers that came with the kit and hooked it up to the existing surround speakers I had already. Works a treat.

As you already have a Samsung Blu Ray it might be worth checking if it's like ours.

I went for a soundbar and as others have said definate improvement over sh1te speakers they use in flat panel tv's these days. The sound is never going to a 5.1 system but is a decent enough improvment to warrant the outlay. Best thing to do figure out a budget and do your research. Some places will have demo rooms where u can try before you buy

Quite like the idea of the Cambridge Audio Minx TV which is a "Soundbase"

This seemed a good solution to the TVs they sell now with no speakers

Interesting read Dp, the Roth is considered the best all round sound bar in the sub £250 market.

+1 for Richersounds. Is there one near you?

What's the budget?

Had to go look up the model number of mine. It's a Philips HTS5110 which was purchased 2 years ago.

I will quite happily go to £300 as i have extra funds from the sale of the tablet.

A shame you can't squeeze a little more on you're budget (yes ok, double it ) the sonos playbar is worth a listen, and you can add the sonos sub at a later date, as well as the streaming options and multi room gizmos to add if you wish
Yeah it's pricey though

I have a Sonos playbar linked to one of our TVs and have added the wireless sub.

Yes it is expensive but if you're into music it is a fantastic option as the sound quality will outstrip anything else on the market plus it is easily expandable in terms of the ability to add other Sonos units throughout the house and additional speakers for 5.1. Be aware though that it has no hdmi connection and so relies on a tv with optical digital out.

I have read about the Sonos, great bit of kit. My tv has the optical output so im ok, its the price thats going to hold me back a bit as i still need a tablet so i need to budget for around £300 for that.
