Help Upgraded to iPhone 5s yesterday - top money for old phones

On O2. Mine is a 64gb version, Clare's a 32gb.

Got two literally mint (flip case from new) 4s 32gb phones to get shot off (white & black).

Never sold on eBay so where to go for top money

Thanks,

I used O2's own recycle service even though I'm not on O2. You may not get as much as selling them privately, but the prices were good compared to other similar services and the payment was prompt and direct into my bank account and it was very little hassle.

I recently got £110.50 for a 32gb 3 year old iPhone 4.

Probably worth getting on Ebay and selling them, or getting a mate to sell them for you. A quick look and used versions are selling for around £150.

I'll give you £200 for both tomorrow!

5S is a very nice device.

As is the way with iPhones it's not a quantum leap forward but there's no denying it's quick, powerful and has improved optics. The killer feature for me is the fingerprint ID which for somebody who has to have a passcode on their phone is a real bonus. Subject to security issues this could be a feature which will really grown in significance and deployment.

Both new phones are still untouched Since the move, we've not unpacked the PC so can't do a full backup. I'd happily pay for additional iCloud backup but the internet is so slow where we live (2meg download, 0.36meg upload), I'm guessing backing up a 32gb phone that's almost full would take about a week

I have a 5s after a 4s. There is so little difference it's silly.

The 5s is thinner and lighter. The screen is a fraction larger and you get 5 rows of icons to a screen rather than 4.

The camera is incrementally better.

The fingerprint scanner is a functional gimic.

The major difference is that the iPod integration in my car no longer works, even with the apple lightning to old style adaptor.

My wife has my iPhone 4S now, best way of getting value for money is reuse.

So apart from ..........

A bigger screen

A significantly faster processor

Double the RAM

Bluetooth LE

4G

Fingerprint sensor

A standalone graphics chip

The lack of difference is indeed silly

The bigger screen is barely noticeable.
The added processing power makes no difference.
The added RAM makes no difference
Bluetooth change makes no difference.
4G isn't available within 20 miles of me so makes no difference.
A standalone graphics chip makes no difference.
A fingerprint sensor is a gimmick.

So, no real advantages to the user. It's a lot of willy waving.

When I got mine, expecting great things, putting a 4s and a 5s next to each other and running the same tasks on both at the same time shows no actual difference. The screen is a shade larger, that's it. To compensate, hold a 4s about 2 inches closer to your face for the same effect.

Oh, and a fingerprint scanner means that a thief now needs to cut off your hand when they rob you. Bonus!

Horses for courses I guess and as with all Smartphones I suppose it depends on just how one uses the device.

I would say that as a minimum the ability to keep more things on a home screen is a fairly noticeable change. No amount of holding another screen closer is going to change that.

Processor plus RAM plus gfx means better games and much quicker photo and video editing for me.

Bluetooth LE means we are now using some clever third party accessories at home.

If you can get it 4G makes a material difference to heavy data users.

As for the FP sensor your last statement isn't correct. It's usage sits alongside the time honoured PIN code lock and does not replace it.

Does the Bluetooth on the 5 now communicate with the rest of the non apple world?

It's a good example of a pointless gadget. If it is that easily bypassed then why bother.

When I set mine up I expected the fingerprint function to open alternative profiles on the device, but nope, just an added way of unlocking.

I've just gone from my 3 year old iphone4(32gb) to a 5 (32gb and unlocked) and it's a big change. Faster, better camera..... I bought it second hand because plans here are now $70 a month with a new smartphone. I'd rather pay $45.

Decision made. Giving our phones to my sister & brother in law

Ours are on O2 & they're with Tesco mobile which I think uses the same network so unlocking should not be needed?

If they do require unlocking, as I have just found out, the only way would appear for you to get an unlock code is from O2. You can do it online via your O2 account.

Don't bother with the online unlocking services. No one could do the 4S I inherited from a friend.

The unlock codex service is from £20 upwards from your carrier. It's a straight forward operation, and another cash cow for Apple who actually do it.
