file transfer from iphone help

gents....

i need to transfer a video file from my iphone to somebody else's ipad, any ideas what's the easiest way to do it?

basically my daughter's best friend moved away to yorkshire a couple of weeks ago, and she's going over there for a sleepover at the weekend. she wants to record a greeting message from all her classmates to take with her, so how can we then go about dumping it onto her friend's ipad?

One option would be SkyDrive or Dropbox... (yep, coming from a Windows/multiplatform angle).

Alternatively you can do it manually via a PC or if you use an app:

Example app - never tried it, just did a search but basically transfers from device to device via wifi.

oh yeah, forgot about dropbox. so if i give her a 'share link' , does that mean she only gets that particular file, and not access to everything else on there?

Should do - I haven't used it but one additional option would be to set up a folder and only share things in that one folder within dropbox. (unnecessary I'm sure but a good way to segregate shared and private files.

Google Drive is another option as is ownCloud if you have your own servers.

I'm sure there was an app called something like 'bump' where you could transfer files just by bumping the devices together. Might be nicely simple for a youngster to manage.

bit like bluetooth on old mobiles then?

did it through my dropbox account in the end. the 'send link' function doesn't appear to work - no email received at the other end but you can click 'get link' and then copy & paste into an email. job done

I think the app in question does indeed use bluetooth.

Yes, that's why you need an app that uses it, rather than just being able to use the phone's own abilities. (As I understand it.)
