No.

Anyone remember using Infra-Red to connect between (for example) a phone and laptop?

Old news, there's some better emerging tech based on fibre optics already in play but to radically increase bandwidth by using it in a different way, think it has to do with different colours of laser light, can't remember really but saw something about it around 6 months ago.

the way it works (in the lab) is that instead of sending just one signal down one fibre, they can send 2 or 3 signals down the same fibre using the different light frequencies (colors). but at the moment the tech to do the splitting at the recieving end is still very expensive, the other thing they are trying is to make a single fibre RX/TX at the same time, using the different colors.

A bit like comparing FM with AM radio? Interesting.
