Cry Like A Baby I broke my TomTom

Thought I would be smart and downloaded a more up to date "map" torrent for my five year old 710 TomTom ....backed up sim to PC just in case. The torrent unsurprisingly failed. Tried to copy data from PC back to sim only to find TomTom only works when operated via TomTom Home , screen just goes blank after the tomtom boot up .....TomTom 1 - Idiot 0 .....

Guess it's off to Halfords for a new Sat Nav , Garmin Nuvi 40 with unlimited map upgrades £60.... don't have a smart phone so that is not an option.

Yes I know ...torrents! ....should know better.

Indeed, however at worst your TomTom works again and you will get more towards a new device if you decide to sell it.

Tomtoms of that era don't need Tomtom Home, you can copy files using Windows explorer where the Tomtom shows up as an external drive. If you backup all the files on the device in this way then you will be able to restore it.

However if you "backed up" using Tomtom Home rather than Windows explorer then you did not do a full backup so you will be unable to restore the device.
