Hmmm HDMI blown port ?

Not having much luck with technology and want to ask has anyone else any experience with HDMI port's blowing .
This laptop I am using was confirmed yesterday as having a blown HDMI port by a technician @ PC world . They last me four months .
On my second laptop this year over HDMI and the same thing happened with my four year old laptop , just as it went out of warranty.
Have blown all 3 port's in my TV and only one work's now after a full repair .
Also have blown or gone through three PS3 consoles with HDMI failure .
The thing they all have in common in a JVC TV and a 5 Metre long HDMI lead .
Any input welcome thanks .
Feel special as going by all report's it seems I am just unlucky !!
Technicians I talk to say they have not heard of anyone else having such problems .
It is as if I am lying when I tell people how unlucky I have been with HDMI .

Wow, I've never had any HDMI problems (touch wood). I think the recommended maximum cable lenth might be 3m but not absolutley sure on that. The cable being longer would suggest signal drop off, so, unless your equipment is trying to over compensate I don't think that would be the cause. I'm not an elictrician though, so, stand to be corrected.

Thank you frank and you could be right , I remember reading the cable should be 3 M max .
A very young technician at PC world told me yesterday it was not the problem ..

The technician who fixed the TV told me it was because I was unplugging the lead when it was live/connected .
Since been mega careful powering down everything before disconnecting and still blow ports .

Sounds like the TV could be overpowering them.

Haha, I get this sometimes with guys who insist on wearing big wooley jumpers. They cant use laptop touchpads as the cursor either locks in one position or flys all over the place
