Thumbs Up My New Treat

Just ordered a new camera, not top of the range but my 75-300mm and my 28 -90mm lenses will fit that's why I chose another Canon

With the 18-55mm that comes with it this will be the most comprehensive camera kit I've had since I was shooting with a 35mm Olympus OM-30

And it shoots 3 frames per second in sport mode and video

Any how I've just treated myself to one of these

It's on order now so I don't need any posts about you should have bought an XYZ they are better

Green Light Of Death,

memory card stays lit when the camera's off and there's a card in - drains battery.

Take card out, no light - battery drains anyway.

Off to Nikon for repair, apparently a common problem with some power circuits.

Excellent choice.

Now for a tip...
Use Sandisk Ultra or Sandisk Extreme memory cards, but don't buy them off eBay.

Yes, they cost more than a Tesco value card, but they are more reliable.

Are the ones off ebay not genuine?
The ones I've seen are from top sellers and have either a 5 or 10 year warranty cost between 23/25.

Oh and I'll be buying from the UK not Hong Kong

I know of several cases where people have bought ones off eBay to find that they weren't genuine.

I'd also advise that rather than getting, say, 1x 32GB card, get 2x 16GB. That way if you lose one card, you can still shoot, or if one card becomes corrupt, you've still got images on the other one.

Looks like it's the time of year for new cameras! My old Olympus C-765 (aka "the battery-eater") was getting rather long in the tooth & my "throwaway" Canon A1300 is very limited in what it can do, so I had no problem in justifying a new camera.

For the amount of photography I do I can't justify an SLR, so it's a "bridge" camera for me. Wanting a camera with a viewfinder & powered by AA batteries my choice was limited to Fuji & Pentax; I've bought a Pentax X-5.

Now, the real purpose of this post, memory cards. I swear by Sandisk, but it does appear that there are some fakes around. I've bought 16gb Extreme for 15.47 from Amazon.

The plural of "anecdote" is not "data".

I think two at 16GB is a good idea, I don't keep images on them for any length of time I usually update to my portable hard drive as soon as I get home from any events

I had a Fuji finepics bridge for a few years before I upgraded to the DSLR but the X5 looks like a nice bit of kit

As a side issue, if anyone is interested in a Sigma 150-500 f5.6-6.3 with OS, or a lightly used Canon 7D, let me know. They'll be going on eBay in a few weeks.

My default manufacturer would be Canon (still got my FTBn with a partly-exposed cassette of Kodachrome 64!) but in this instance they didn't have anything to match my criteria. My first digital camera was a Fuji - all 2 MP of it! Searching around I couldn't find any reviews of the current Fuji bridge cameras I was considering - what I did find was a lot of "refurbished" ones for sale, which suggests a high rate of warranty returns.

I'd be very tempted at 175. Where's that from? The best price I can find is 280ish.

Still waiting for nirvana - Kyocera to put out a digital Contax G3 so I can use the best 35mm rangefinder lenses ever sold (Zeiss Contax G) on a digital camera.

Stewart, you could always try...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kipon-Cont...item4d066d03a8

(no idea if/how well it would work)

Office Chair.

Canon looks a smart choice HM

I seem to have acquired far more cameras (3 DSLR's, 3 Bridge & one compact) than talent.
My GF has a few compacts (I have given her) and a Bridge.
I feel one of the Bridge and my Pentax K100 to go on eBay, maybe. (I like them though..).
I only have three (inc GF's Bridge) bought new cameras out of that lot, eBay is most certainly not my friend
