Phone SIM cards query.

Is it feasible or even possible that sim cards for sim only plans or PAYG don't work as well as cards issued with contract phones.
I ask because I changed from contract to sim only pay monthly and the signal strength has dipped. 3 network insisted it was my new phone but it's no different in my old HTC.

Not feasible.

Try the SIM card in a different phone, or try a different SIM card in your phone.

You also need to make sure you are testing the same thing, so it needs to be the same phone, the same network, the same weather conditions, the same location, etc etc.

Thanks for the reply
Something is amiss somewhere. When at work the new S3 Galaxy got virtually no signal at all on the 3 pay monthly sim, it got one bar on Vodafone PAYG where my contract vodafone sim was getting 3 bars, I sent it back to Amazon. The 3 sim when in my old HTC gets 3 bars but again nothing when I'm in home or in my garden although 3 say it's a strong signal. I've cancelled that contract now. Frustrated is not the word, my original mission was not to be tied to a lengthy contract which is why I bought the unlocked Samsung. Orange PAYG sim now ordered just to check signal where I use the phone most.

SIM card doesn't have anything to do with Reception, this is regulated by a myriad of factors, climate, topography, cell site coverage, interference, battery power (some devices auto regulate TX/RX power based on battery life) plus a host of other factors, this is why mobile phone companies don't guarantee reception.

SIMs can be damaged and cause connectivity issues but not reception strength.

Some very old SIMs are incompatible with modern networks and will only offer GSM coverage.

Signal strength bars are meaningless

Largely thats correct, all it measures really is coverage, it doesnt tell you how contended it is or the quality of service.
