The Yamaha is true surround sound.

The other one isn't.

My advice is to get the Yamaha.

Yeah but apparently the bass isn't that good on the Yam whereas the LG has a separate sub woofer for decent bass...

Being a sound bar it's never going to be true surround sound is it?
Been looking at done online reviews and the LG seems to keep in coming up trumps whereas the Yamaha seems to be constantly refered to as 'good for this price range'.

The Yamaha uses a phased array to generate directional beams of sound. It bounces them off the walls to your ears.

Unlike speakers that will only emit sound from one point, these can make sound appear from anywhere. Though it is better at lateral projection. So if the encoding allowed it, you can forget 7.1 (with a SW) it is infinity.1.

It's UK developed tech. Have a look at www.cambridgemechatronics.com.

It's actually a problem for the tech that people don't know this is possible and dismiss the Yamaha products as expensive gumpf.

There will still be some that will naysay.

You're right about the bass though. It does need a sub.

I'm biased but my advice is still to get the Yam.

Having checked, I can't be sure this one is a sound projector.

It gets great reviews and Yamaha have knowledge of the technology but I'm not sure. Sorry.

If you want the best sound bar, a ysp-1 is the way to go.

Our new TV doesn't need one.

I bought the LG as I found it reduced further making it £40 cheaper than the Yamaha. The sound is fantastic, really good base. Looks good and has plenty of features making it quite versatile.

The only fault I can find so far is it seems to need wiping down / dusting everyday as the glossy piano black finish seems to attract dust like nothing I've seen before, and being glossy black it really shows it up.
