How do I disable the Windows Experience Interface?

"How do I disable the Windows Experience Interface?

Windows 8 does not allow you to disable the Windows Experience Interface. The new Start screen has replaced the Start menu. There is a “Desktop” tile that will take you to a familiar Windows environment where you can use desktop apps.
"

I don't want my computer to look like an effing smartphone!

Downgrade to Win7?!!

I'd consider it a vast improvement!

Thanks, I'll have a look.

Brill! Thanks Ghosty. I think it was you that recommended me to use Classic Shell, which I've already availed myself of.

Looking at the cNet link, I've already changed my default photo viewer to the traditional one using "stop opening files in modern apps". Using the Win8 Photo App, every time you closed down a photo you had to go back via the bleedin' Win8 starting App screen to your desktop - just infuriating!

I'll work me way through the rest bit by bit .

Things are working well now .

My Picture, Documents and Video Libraries and associated files now open with software that I have chosen and when I close them down, I don't revert back to the stupid Apps Screen, and then have to select Desktop again . I hadn't realised that Microsoft Picture Viewer and Media Player were still available on a W8 computer .

And I have my normal Desktop back, with a Start Menu in the bottom LH corner, when I start the computer up .

But I still have the very fast start-up of W8, as well as all the features and capabilities of W8, should I wish to investigate them in the future. I call that the best of both worlds!
